Veterans Coffee House of Eastern CT Update

WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE VETERANS COFFEE HOUSE OF EASTERN CONNECTICUT  HAS MOVED TO THE NEW SENIOR CENTER.

THE COFFEE HOUSE WILL HOLD ITS FIRST MEETING Of  2023 ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 3rd. DOORS OPEN AT 8:30 am, MEETING STARTS AT 9:00 am UNTIL 11:00 am.

THIS MEETING WILL BE A COMBINED BUISNESS & SOCIAL MEETING. TOPICS WIILL INCLUDE A DISSCUSSION OF THE COFFEE STRUCTURE, MANAGEMENT, EVENTS AND PRESENTATIONS FOR 2023, COMMUNITY SERVICE CONTRIBUTIONS, UPCOMING ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS AND IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS FROM ATTENDEES.

ALL VETERANS FROM ALL SERVICES ARE WELCOME. COME JOIN US FOR COFFEE, TEA & COMRADERIE AS WE PLAN FOR AN EXCITING 2nd YEAR. HELP US GROW.  WE WORK FOR YOU AND THE BENEFITS YOU EARNED WHILE SERVING YOUR COUNTRY.  YOUR BENEFITS ARE NOT GIFTS—THEY ARE YOUR “BACK PAY” OWED TO YOU.

 

Special Membership Meeting

Thursday, January 26th at 1:00pm

 

Light Luncheon at 12:00 pm for those that RSVP by Monday, Jan. 23rd. Stuffed Cabbage Soup & Sandwich .

This will be our first membership meeting since we closed on March 17, 2020. Now we celebrate by enjoying our new senior center together! There is much to talk about & lots to discuss. Going forward we want to hear from you on new programming What would you like to do, learn about and hear about? We look forward to hearing what you want in your new center.

 

Tai Chi

Tai Chi has been described as "a prescription to good health for men and women, whether young or old, weak or strong.”  Some benefits include improved balance, decreased tension, and better breathing.   For beginning and continuing students.

 

DAY: Fridays, 10 weeks
TIME: 12:00 – 1:00

Latin Line Dancing

This class instructs seniors in various line dance routines in both Latin and Ballroom Style. Latin dances include samba, merengue, rumba, cha cha, salsa, swing and mambo; Ballroom dances includes waltz, foxtrot and tango. From these various dance styles, routines are learned such as Burlesque, Hello Dolly, Singing in the Rain, Puttin’ on the Ritz, Senorita, Sway and many more. Dance is excellent physical activity for seniors, as well as utilizing the mind in remembering steps/routines and lastly a means of interacting socially with other seniors.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is accessible to all abilities. This class is designed to offer the benefits of yoga including stretching, breathing practices, and relaxation.

DAY: Fridays, 10 weeks
TIME: 10:30 – 11:30

INSTRUCTOR: Sandy Hartnett

Yoga

Mats, blocks and chairs (for props) are available or bring your own. Anyone can attend regardless of flexibility or injury and modifications are available for every pose. We practice breathing with stretching and breathing with building strength and balance poses. Come to class to recover from injury and illness or simply to improve and enjoy daily life. The movement of yoga asana may increase bone mass. Practicing yoga asana and meditation may help with anxiety and depression.

Aquacise Class

Exercise in the pool to provide a lot of resistance for muscles, but no wear and tear on joints. Please note that the pool will be covered with a dome during the winter months.

DAY: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 times in one month
TIME: 10:00 – 10:45am

Trip: Old Mystick Village

Explore over forty unique shops in the open air village, all decorated for the winter.  Enjoy lunch on-your-own in one of the many eateries.
