- An applicant or the spouse must be 65 or older; or be 100% disabled (per Social Security);
- Must have lived in Connecticut for 1 year.
- Total 2016 income which includes Social Security must not exceed:
- Thirty-five percent of the applicant’s annual rent must exceed 5% of the applicant’s income.
Open Enrollment for Medicare Part D/Prescription Drug Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans coverage is from October 15th to December 7th, 2017. Enrollees should review their coverage to determine if any changes are needed. If a change is made, it goes into effect as of January 1, 2018.
During this annual enrollment period you can make changes to various aspects of your coverage. You can switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage or vice versa. You can also switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another. You can switch from one Medicare Part D (prescription drug) plan to another.
And if you didn’t enroll in a Medicare Part D plan when you were first eligible, you can do so during the
general open enrollment, although a late enrollment penalty may apply. If you need assistance with this, please contact the Senior Center office.

TAX RELIEF FOR ELDERLY AND TOTALLY DISABLED RENTERS
The Renter Rebate Program through the State of CT provides a rebate for renters who are elderly or disabled. Applications for the Renters Rebate Program are available starting April 1st and ending October 1st. Please call the Senior Center for an appointment. In order to receive a renter rebate:

Proof of income received and rent and utility payments made in calendar year 2016 must be provided.

A nurse from the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut provides Blood Pressure Screening. No appointment necessary.
