Classes Begin Tuesday, August 1st  at 6:30 p.m.

A 7-Week virtual program to help you become tobacco-free!

Get assistance in preparing to quit, quitting, and not returning to tobacco use.  Freedom From Smoking program also helps you re-prioritize other healthy behaviors that support a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Offered by Uncas Health District and open to anyone who lives or works in Southeastern Connecticut.

This program is FREE and includes FREE nicotine replacement therapy.

Counseling Services

The Rose City Senior Center offers counseling services for our Senior Center members.  Counseling for positive mental health and well-being is available with Kerri Redner, LCSW.  Appointments are currently scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  There is no fee for this service.

Trip: Buttonwood Farm Ice Cream

Ice Cream anyone?  Buttonwood Farm makes over 50 flavors of ice cream at their farm.  Along with the ice cream, the waffle cones and whipped cream are also handmade onsite.  During your visit, have a cup, cone, sundae or shake of their delightful treat as you enjoy the views of sunflower fields and farm cows at their scenic country location.

Cost: $2 for transportation (Senior Center bus).  Ice Cream is on your own.

 

Your Life, Your Legacy: Funeral Planning

Informational Seminar by Church & Allen and Labenski Funeral Homes

Most of us plan for important life events, such as weddings, our children’s education and retirement but few of us prepare for the inevitable.  This informative program addresses the importance of making your final arrangements in advance and the steps to take.  The interactive presentation addresses the advantages of pre-arranging a funeral, including the benefits of planning and steps involved in the planning process.  Participants may request a free Personal Planning Guide to help get you started.

Beltone Hearing Aid Clinic

Thursday, July 20th from 9:00-11:00am 

 

As a service to the local community, a Hearing Care Practitioner from Beltone will be at the Rose City Senior Center to meet with seniors by appointment.  A trained professional will be available for cleaning and checking all makes and models of hearing aids, along with answering any questions you may have about hearing aids and hearing health.  This is a free service.  An appointment is needed.

Register for The Big E Trip

Friday, September 15th

Join us on Opening Day for a day full of fun!  The Big E is the largest fair in New England with lots of food, fun and great entertainment such as – the Avenue of States, musical entertainment, the Marti Gras Parade, agricultural and livestock exhibits, Clydesdales, plus an array of exhibits, rides, shopping, crafts, entertainment and TONS of foods.  Don’t forget to try The Big E Cream Puff or The Big Éclair!

Opening Day is also Military Appreciation Day!  Active Military and Veterans get free admission to the fair with a Veteran or Military ID.  Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from across New England will be stationed along the Avenue of States to answer questions and provide information on both national and state Veteran resources.  A great day to visit!

COST: $58 per person – Includes charter bus transportation and The Big E admission fee.

$48 Active Military and Veterans – Includes transportation.  Free admission with Military ID.

Volunteers Needed!

Kitchen Volunteers Needed

We are establishing a list of volunteers to help in the Senior Center Kitchen starting in September on an as-needed basis.  Kitchen volunteer hours are approximately 9:30a.m.-12:30p.m., Monday – Friday.

You will work under the direction of the TVCCA Café Site Server and assist in preparing TVCCA Meals on Wheels food bags along with assisting with the Senior Center lunch.

Assistance includes prepping silverware and trays, helping to plate and serve food, cleaning up, and running the dishwasher.  This position involves standing, bending, lifting, carrying, etc.

This volunteer position is as-needed starting in September, one or more days per week.

Greenhouse Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for new additions to our group of Greenhouse Volunteers.  The Senior Center has an outdoor vegetable garden, outdoor flower garden, and inside greenhouse with lots of plants to care for.

The greenhouse volunteers get together every Monday morning (and more often in the warmer months).  Feel free to stop by the greenhouse around 9:30 a.m. on a Monday to talk with them about the help that is needed.  Open to Senior Center Members only.
