Trip includes…

  • Special guided tour of Harlem’s famed Apollo Theatre. The tour is educational, entertaining, and inspirational. Hear the story of the theatre and legendary people who performed here such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and so many more.
  • Lunch at the famous Slyvia’s restaurant served family style. Started by an ambitious woman in 1962, Slyvia’s had become an icon and place to be seen. Presidents, Senators, Govenors, Mayors, and people who appreciate delicious food flock to Sylvia’s. Sample menu: BBQ Chicken & Country Fried Fish, potato salad, collard greens, dessert, iced tea, soda, and coffee
  • A guided riding tour highlights the diversity, history, and beauty that is Harlem, from the Harlem Meer in Central Park, the Cathedral church of St. John the Divine, the famous brownstones, the beautiful West Side and so much more!

Seniors Farmers Market Vouchers

  • Eligibility is 60 years of age or older OR disabled under the age of 60 who lives in senior housing where congregate nutrition services are provided. Income of not more than 185% poverty guidelines ($2,322/month or $27,861/annual for household of 1; $3,151/month or $37,814/annual for household of 2, etc). Participants can go through means testing to support income eligibility (i.e., SNAP or Medicaid).
  • Cards can be used to purchase only CT grown fruits, vegetables, fresh cut herbs and honey.
  • Cards can only be accepted at authorized locations (a list of farm markets and farm stands will be provided). It is likely possible to coordinate “pop-up” markets at a senior center or other location if working with an authorized farmer.

Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life; Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun; and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida.

55+ adult communities, life plan retirement communities, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing facilities, or staying put.

Whether you are planning for yourself or assisting a loved one, there are many options to navigate. Join Jane Fisher, Certified Senior Advisor, who will help us understand the options and make informed plans. Topics covered will include:

• What does “home” mean and when is the right time to make a transition to senior living housing?
• What senior living & care options are available in our area? What are the costs? What services and amenities do they offer?
• Selecting the right place at the right time
• Staying home instead of moving
• Paying for senior living and care

Nautical Picture Frame Craft

Wednesday, June 12th from 1:00-3:00pm

 

For this fun crafting class, two wooden plain picture frames will be upgraded into unique themed summer picture frames. Select either nautical map or road map to create two unique frames to showcase those special summer photos. Maps, frames, Mod Podge, foam brushes, accent pieces and more will be supplied for the class. With Nancy Souza, Card Maker, Mixed Media Artist and Altenew Certified Educator. Please bring the following supplies to the class-scissors, pencil, ruler, liquid glue and two photos (optional) and any other crafting supplies you think you might need.

Class fee $15.00 per person. Registration begins June 3rd. Register by June 7th.
