Tai Chi & Qi Gong: New Session

The Tai Chi & Qi Gong continuing class next session starts on Friday, January 6th from 12 – 1:30 p.m.

This class is open to senior members who have previously taken Tai Chi and familiar with form and movement.   Not sure if this is the right class for you?  Stop in, talk to the instructor and give it a try!

TVCCA Assistance Programs

Programs designed to help offset the costs for lower income households. 

Eligibility is based on income, family size, assets, and expenses.

CT Energy Assistance ~ Provides assistance towards a homes primary source of heat – oil, natural gas, electricity, propane, kerosene, coal, wood or wood pellets.

CT Water Assistance ~ Provides assistance towards disconnection of household water services; reduction of overdue water bills; and prevention of service disconnection.  Help is available for both household water and wastewater bills.  Eligible households can qualify for up to $1,000.

Elderly/Disabled (Circuit Breaker) Property Tax Credit Program

Property Tax Credit (Circuit Breaker) Program is available to all CT real property owners who are age 65 or older or totally disabled.  Annual income cannot exceed $40,300 for an individual or $49,100 for a couple in 2022.  Discounts are based on a graduated income scale and are calculated by your town’s Tax Assessors Office.  Discount is applied directly to the applicant’s real property tax bill.

Norwich Residents: For more information or to apply for the Property Tax Credit Program, please call the Norwich Tax Assessor’s Office.

Applications are accepted between February 1 and May 15, 2023.

AARP Income Tax Assistance

If you wish to have your taxes done, starting at 9:00a.m. on January 3rd please call the Senior Center or stop by the reception desk to schedule an appointment.  Appointments are available Tuesdays or Thursdays starting in February through early April.

This is a free-of-charge service with an AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteer.

Narcan Training for Seniors

Tuesday, January 17th at 10:00am 

 

Learn to save a life!

Narcan (Naloxone) given as a nasal spray, can reverse the effects of a suspected opioid overdose.  Administering Narcan can help keep someone from losing a child, a parent, a sibling or a spouse.

This 30 minute training will cover signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and how to administer Narcan.  Narcan kits will be provided to participants.  This training is free and open to the public.

SHARING – Walk-in Winter Warming Center in New London

We are sharing this from New London Homeless Hospitality Center located at 325 Huntington Street, New London CT 06320   Voice and text: 860-876-6649

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Partners –

The walk-in Winter Warming Center in New London is now open. The Warming Center is now located next to the Emergency Shelter at 325 Huntington Street. Open weekdays and weekends. Check-in is from 6 – 9:30 pm. Check-out is at 6 am. Masks required. A 211 call is NOT required before arrival, and we will do our best to complete a CAN assessment and intake with overnight guests. Continue to refer unsheltered homeless individuals seeking an Emergency Shelter bed to 211 for a referral to the shelter waitlist.

The Daytime Hospitality Center, located at the Emergency Shelter at 325 Huntington Street, continues to be open 8 am – 4:30 pm on weekdays. Masks required. Showers, a landline, Wi-Fi, a photocopier, a mail center, desktop computers, and twice-weekly a Community Health Center clinic are available with assistance from staff and volunteers. 

For individuals who are experiencing housing and rent difficulties, urge them to visit the NLHHC Housing Resource Center at 727 Bank Street, open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 9 am to noon. Or call the Housing Resource Center directly at 860-501-9900 to make an appointment.

As always, refer any unsheltered homeless individuals to me at 860-876-6649 (voice and text), and I will respond as quickly as I am able.

Day trip to Mystic Seaport Museum January 19th

Please join us Thursday, January 19as we visit the Mystic Seaport Museum and visit the exhibit Sargent, Whistler, & Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano.

We will take our own Thrive55+ bus leaving approx. 12:30 pm for our 1:00 – 4:00 pm visit. $43 per resident/ $53 for non resident. Your cost includes transport, driver, museum talk, admission and a designated docent for our museum visit.
