New DISCOVER CONNECTIONS Program is for those with beginning to mild cognitive challenges

This new program is a welcoming and nurturing program designed for individuals 55 and over with varied needs including those persons with beginning to mild cognitive challenges or anyone at risk for social isolation.   The activities are planned to be fun with a purpose.  They may stimulate memories or test the brain to solve a problem.  New experiences will be offered involving art, music, cultural topics, history and more.  This program is a social model for programming and no skilled care is provided by staff. Individuals who would like to participate must be comfortable in a group setting.

Discover Connections is scheduled in eight (8) week sessions as all other programs at the Center.  Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am-1pm. Lunch will be from 12pm to 1pm.  Participants can bring their lunch or purchase lunch as the Coastal Café in the Senior Center.

Friday, July 12th- Trip on the Schooner ARGIA for a Mystic Cruise

Join us as we sail away! The Schooner ARGIA is one of the last sailing ships in New England. You’ll discover islands, lighthouses and the beauty of sailing aboard a traditional sailing ship. The ship will sail in cloudy and light drizzle weather conditions; please dress for the weather by wearing an extra layer and bringing a jacket. There is a bathroom on board, however you would need to climb a ladder to access it. The schooner sails out of downtown Mystic from 9:30 – 11:30 am. We meet at the dock at 9 am $26 pp

Wednesday, July 31st- Movie Showing- THE FAVOURITE

Time- 1:00pm

Movies are shown the last Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by Club 55. Costs: Club 55 members $1.00 and Non-members $3.00   Fee includes popcorn and punch.  Movies are at 1pm. Registration is required.

In the early 18th century, England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne occupies the throne, and her close friend, Lady Sarah, governs the country in her stead, while tending to Anne’s ill health & mercurial temper. When a new servant, Abigail, arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing, and Abigail sees a chance to return to her aristocratic roots.

First place winners will be entered in the Regional Senior Art Show at the Senior Expo August 9 at Norwich Technical School from 9:30a.m.-12:30p.m.

COOKBOOK CLUB – Third Wednesday of the Month

Cooking, eating, discussing, & sharing food brings us together!

*Bring a recipe from a cookbook or from the internet. Each month’s there is a different topic. Contact the senior center to find out the topic.  Bring the cookbook and copies of the recipe to share. Or we can make copies for you at the center. Bring a sample to taste. Must register!

There are many health benefits to Mediation: Detoxification of body, de-stressing, increased cardiovascular capacity, regulate weight, improved posture, help with anxiety, depression, heart disease, high blood pressure & more!
