Container Gardening & Herbs

Thursday, May 24, 2018   6:30- -8:00 pm  $20 pp

Come to a fun class on container gardening and herbs presented by Karen Parker and Liza Dalrymple.  Learn the do’s and don’t of container gardening and pick up ideas for your own garden.  Discuss the Materia medica for parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme and peppermint.  Creative and fun ways of incorporating into tasty treats and healing uses.  Plants of the Bible & Flowers of the Holy Land

Discussion on past and present day uses of flowers and herbs and which of these plants can grown in our climate.  Learn how to incorporate the flowers into your own garden.   Register by 6/5/18.

TAX RELIEF FOR ELDERLY AND TOTALLY DISABLED RENTERS

The Renter Rebate Program through the State of CT provides a rebate for renters who are elderly or disabled. Applications for the Renters Rebate Program are available starting April 1st and ending October 1st. Please call the Senior Center for an appointment.  In order to receive a renter rebate:

  1. An applicant or the spouse must be 65 or older; or be 100% disabled (per Social Security);

or be 50 and a surviving spouse.

  1. Must have lived in Connecticut for 1 year.
  2. Total 2017 income which includes Social Security must not exceed:

Married $43,000

Single $35,300

  1. Thirty-five percent of the applicant’s annual rent must exceed 5% of the applicant’s income.

Proof of income received and rent and utility payments made in calendar year 2017 must be provided.

If you collect Social Security, you must provide your SSA1099 for 2017.

 

 

Town of Old Lyme Renters Rebate

Town of Old Lyme & Lyme Renters’ Rebate for the elderly & disabled.

Who can apply: Residents 65 years or older as of 12/31/17, or totally and permanently disabled residents as of 12/31/17, who paid rent (partial or full year) in Connecticut in 2017.

Income Guidelines: Up to $35,300 for singles; $43,000 for married couples Application Dates: April 2 – October 1, 2018 What You Need to Apply: Copy of 2017 income tax, if filed Rent receipts from 2017 Verification of utility bills paid in 2017 (electricity, propane/oil, water) Copies of all 2017 income (wages, SSA-1099, pension, interest, etc.) Rebates of up to $700 for singles and $900 for married couples. Sponsored by the State of CT, Office of Policy and Management.
