The Gray School of Irish Dance will perform for us on March 15th at 1:30pm with a variety of Irish Dances including soft and hard shoe dances.  The dances will include Reels, Jigs, Hornpipes (both contemporary and traditional), and Celtic dances.  The dancers will be dressed in traditional Irish Dance costumes.

St Patrick’s Day Luncheon will be held on Thursday, March 15th. Reservations need to be made by calling (860) 434-4322 before 10:45am on Friday, March 2nd.

We will be starting a Cardio Strength Training Interval Class taught by Marcia Pirie who currently teaches our Piyo Classes. This class is meant for those who are already very physically active. This class will be run in 6 week increments starting March 13th and the class runs from 5:00-5:45 pm. The cost is $30.00 which will be payed to the instructor. Join us on March 13th at 12:45 for the hysterical movie Wild Hogs that came out in 2007 starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. The movie is about “a group of middle-aged friends decide to rev up their routine suburban lives with a freewheeling motorcycle trip. Taking a long dreamed-of breather from their stressful jobs and family responsibilities, they can’t wait to feel the freedom of the open road. When this mismatched foursome, who have grown far more used to the couch than the saddle, set out for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, they encounter a world that holds far more than they ever bargained for. The trip begins to challenge their wits and their luck, especially during a chance run-in with the Del Fuegos, a real-life biker gang who are less than amused with their novice approach. 2018 brings successes and challenges. As I look back I see the 50% growth of www.SeniorCenterCt.org. As I look forward I see the challenge of matching that 50% growth plus expanding Jencks Network. I’m thankful for what has happened and hopeful of what the future holds.

And that brings me to this little ditty I wrote…

What is old??  Me? NO!  You? NO!  Them?? Of course, it’s them… not us! Right!

Is old turning 40? 50?  Oh, wait I’m past those, so it must be 70…80…90???

Hey all I know is it’s not me right now. I don’t feel old – however that feels –  and I sure as heck don’t look my age – as I stamp my foot!

So, if we are not old….

Then we can and will do everything we have ever done. Right?

We will continue to learn and do new things.

We will be trendsetters.

We will reinvent ourselves again!

We will find new paths.

We will not say “Oh I’m too old for that”

We will not say “I can’t do that.”

We will not say “I always wanted to do that.”

We will not say “If I was younger…”

I know what I will do!

I will take smart risks.

I will set attainable goals.

I will reach for the impossible.

I will push forward, and I hope you join me on the aging journey!!

Because if we don’t age in a positive fashion…..

Welcome back Connecticut’s 1st State Troubadour, Tom Callinan. He will perform Irish & Irish – American songs and tunes for us on March 7th at 1:00pm. His special blend of multi instruments to include a penny whistle, guitar, and drum to name a few will have us singing, clapping, and even dancing along within minutes!

Pre-registration allows Groton Senior Center to secure staffing and materials for programs, so that we may best serve you.
