Join us for this exciting day trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met Fifth Avenue) in New York City!  The Met Fifth Avenue represents over 5,000 years of art spanning all cultures and time periods. Since the Museum opened its doors to the public at its current location in Central Park in 1880, its footprint has expanded to cover more than two million square feet.

Today, art comes alive in the Museum’s galleries and exhibits revealing both new ideas and unexpected connections across time and cultures.  The numerous art collections on display include Modern, Greek & Roman, Egyptian, European, American, Medieval, plus others and special exhibits.

Dining will be on your own at The Met which offers a number of different choices including formal dining, cafes and cafeteria style dining.  Feeling adventurous?  You can leave the museum and re-enter if you would like to leave for lunch or take a walk around Central Park during your visit!

COST: $58 per person – Includes transportation and The Met entrance fee. (Driver Tip is not included.)

New York City on Your Own

A great opportunity to visit New York City for some fantastic shopping, restaurants and sightseeing!  Your drop-off and pick-up area will be by the Metropolitan Museum of Art located in Central Park on 5th Ave near E 82nd St.  Spend some time exploring Central Park or within 1/2 mile you can walk to the Guggenheim Museum or Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.  Up for a longer walk?  Within 2 miles you can walk to Rockefeller Center and Times Square!  Don’t forget public transportation is always available if you would like to venture farther than your feet can take you!

We will be arriving in NYC at approximately 10:30am and leaving NYC at 4:30pm.

MOVIE: GOING IN STYLE

 

Join us October 24th at 1:00pm for a newly released comedy about “three friends and retired steelworkers (Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin) that are outraged to learn that their pension fund has been raided by a shady corporation. In response, they decide to rob one of the corporation’s banks to get their hard-earned money back.” Shown in closed caption

Thursdays- Pickleball

Time: 1:00pm

Pickleball is a paddle ball sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.  It is a fun game that is played on a badminton-sized court with the net lowered to 34 inches.  It is played with a plastic ball (similar to a wiffle ball) and a paddle.  It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced competitive game for experienced players.  Stop by and check it out!  Beginners welcome!

Wednesdays- Mahjong*

Time: 12:30pm

* This is an advanced level group. Limited space may be available.

Mahjong is a Chinese game of skill, strategy and calculation using tiles with symbols and pictures. It is played similar to the card game Rummy in that you “draw” and “discard” tiles in an attempt to match them to win the game.

Tuesdays- Golden Nuggets – Glee Club

Time: 1:00pm

The Golden Nuggets is Rose City Senior Center’s glee club and they are looking for new members. Singers of any level of experience are welcome to join them. Now is a great time to join this talented group as they start back from their Summer break and start preparing for their Holiday Concert series!
If you are interested in joining the Golden Nuggets, you must join by September 26th.  Anyone wishing to join after that date will be accepted on a case by case basis.
