Miracle on South Division Street

Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Theater, Newport, RI

Thursday, November 9th

Meet the Nowaks of Buffalo, NY.  Clara and her three grown kids have always known they were special… ever since the miraculous Christmas Eve in 1942 when the Blessed Mother appeared to Grandpa in his barbershop!  However, the entire family’s faith is shaken to the very core when a confession causes the family legend to be questioned.  The results are heartfelt and hilarious.

Trip: “Private Jones” at Goodspeed’s The Terris Theatre

Wednesday, October 25th

10:15 AM Depart Rose City Senior Center  /  5:15 PM Approximate return time

First, you will have time on your own for lunch in Chester.  You will be dropped off on Main St. where you can choose from one of the cafes or restaurants to eat at.

Following lunch, a short ride will bring you to The Terris Theatre.  The Terris Theatre is Goodspeed Opera House’s “second” theater for developing fresh, innovative and original new musicals.

Private Jones is inspired by the true story of a deaf soldier in World War I who displays remarkable skill as a sniper while hiding his profound hearing loss.  Driven by an ensemble of deaf, hearing and hard-of-hearing actors and a dynamic Celtic score, witness how one man’s journey through war becomes all the more treacherous since he – and we – can’t hear what’s coming next.

This trip will be using the Senior Center bus for transportation.

You are responsible to find your own ride to the SC before the trip and home from the SC after.

COST: $55 per person includes Private Jones center orchestra ticket and transportation.

Lunch is on your own.  (Show contains strong language and depictions of war.)

Groton Sail Project Talk

Tuesday, October 3rd at 1:00pm

Help us build a Monument! Learn more about this wonderful project from one of the project leaders, Marian Galbraith, former Mayor of Groton City. This project is a collaboration of Town and City of Groton. The sail from the USS Groton
will be put up as a monument dedicated to the men and women who design, build, operate and maintain submarines and the families and communities who support them. Groton, Connecticut, rightfully called the “Submarine Capital of the World” is home to the United States Naval Submarine Base, General Dynamics Electric Boat, and the historic USS Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum. This legacy goes back more than 100 years, and the synergy between the defense industry, U.S military and the people of southeastern Connecticut make Groton uniquely qualified to build this lasting monument. We
need to raise the funds to build a monument in Groton, because we are the Submarine Capital of the World. The Groton community has hosted tens of thousands of Navy and shipbuilding families over the past century, and we are focused on preserving this legacy of our maritime heritage.
