Thrive55+ Active Living Center (powered by Groton Senior Center) is the premiere location for nutrition, health and technology and recreational classes, special events and trips, transportation, information and referral services for Groton residents 55 years and older. Programs in health, computers/technology, finance, fitness, art, enrichment and more are offered year-round and there are special events constantly throughout the year. We are active, social and involved and welcome all not only Groton residents. OATS Fall 2020 Hikes

OATS- 55+ Outdoor Active Traveling Seniors Group with Groton Senior Center

Monday, October 5th at Bluff Point State Park hike 9:30am. We will walk the main 3.6 mile loop which varies in flat to hilly with wide trails.

Thursday, October 22nd at 10am. Sparkle Lake Conservation Area on Thomas Road. This is a short and easy excursion into nature. A 0.5 mile lightly trafficked loop trail.

Due to COVID19 we are following the proper protocol with hikes:

  • Social distancing of 6 feet if not from the same household
  • Masks when in closer proximity.
  • Not Participation if you have shown symptoms.

Registration is needed for each OATS outing.

Time: 12:30pm-2pm

At this time, only the following insurances are covered:

** individuals must remain in their vehicles and have on a mask**

No handling money or checks this year due to COVID.

October 24th- Chili Cook Off

Please join us for our annual Chili Cook Off with a 2020 twist-  We will hold it outside from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

As always, area EMS departments battle to see who makes the best chili. This year we will host the event outside to ensure safety and social distancing for all who attend.  In addition, we will have pumpkin decorating for the kids. You can also cozy up around one of the fire pits with your chili.

$10 per person, $5 for kids 10 and under.

Senior Learning Presents: The Salamander State

Program Description: What could be more fun than beautiful, slimy salamanders? Did you know that North Carolina has more species of salamander than any other state? Join Megan as we learn all about our slimy, secretive neighbors. We’ll discuss their fascinating life cycles, where they live, their neat adaptations, and some of the most common species you might find near you. Megan Davis is the Teacher Education Specialist at the NCMNS and she thinks she has one of the best jobs ever! Megan has undergraduate degrees in Zoology and Spanish (NC State), and a Masters in Wildlife Conservation (UMass Amherst).

Zumba Gold class  Tuesday, September 29th 5 pm

Monica will be holding a Zumba Gold class  Tuesday, September 29th from 5:00-6:00 pm.

Safe distancing is adhered to.  Masks are required as one arrives and departs.

CT Home Care Program for Elders talk Thursday Sept 24

This Thursday, Sept  24,  evening, we have a really great presentation on Zoom at  5:30 – 6:30 pm  CT Home Care Program for Elders talk (Title 19) with Michelle Dempsey.

Michelle N. Dempsey, Title 19 Specialist, will speak on both the state funded and Medicaid levels of the CT Home Care Program for Elders.
Michelle is an expert in Guiding Families Through the Complex Medicaid Application Process.
