It’s Our 40th (and 10th) Anniversary!

Groton Senior Center opened its doors in 1980 for programs for seniors in the Town of Groton, CT. In 2010, your center reopened as the newly renovated center we have today. Center staff have planned many special events celebrating our anniversary throughout 2020. So please look for these special 40/10 events like an open house in March and in June our Anniversary Dance. We are proud to celebrate 40 plus years of quality programming for you!

We are open regular times today, Monday, Dec 23 – tomorrow (Dec. 24)  we have our special Christmas Eve Breakfast (sorry- it is full now) and then close at noon.

We are open Thursday, Dec.  26th  and Friday, Dec 27th  until 4:30 pm.

NY Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show exhibit and Little Itlay

This is the 28th year of this amazing exhibit- thank you New York Botanical Garden for keeping up this grand holiday tradition! We are excited to be visiting N.Y.B.G. on Monday, Dec 30th!

We are off on this wonderful day trip Monday, December 30th departing form Groton Senior Center Parking lot on a deluxe motor coach. We visit the New York Botanical Garden- the Holiday Train Show exhibit then we have time on our own on Arthur Street of “Little Italy” – What a great day! Annual Club 55 Holiday Lunch postponed to Tuesday, December 31st

Due to tomorrows weather report, the Annual Club 55 Holiday Lunch will be postponed until Tuesday, December 31st.

If you cannot make the new date, please call the center or stop by. 860-441-6785

The clubs raffle will still be drawn tomorrow, December 17th. The winners will be notified by staff. Thank you and always, please be safe if you travel tomorrow.

Move over Manhattan! New York’s other big seasonal event goes on parade with the popular Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden. The New York Botanical Garden is an iconic living museum, a major educational institution, and a renowned plant research and conservation organization.
 
The HOLDAIY TRAIN SHOW exhibit is in its 28th year of bringing magical beauty for all ages!
Marvel at model trains zipping through an enchanting display of more than 175 famous New York landmarks—imagine the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, and other favorites—each delightfully re-created from natural materials such as birch bark, acorns, and cinnamon sticks.
 
This year’s show—presented in an immersive indoor winter wonderland adjacent to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory—showcases Central Park, with its iconic landscape fashioned in mosses and hollies, and architectural treasures such as Belvedere Castle.

Move over Manhattan! New York’s other big seasonal event goes on parade with the popular Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden. The New York Botanical Garden is an iconic living museum, a major educational institution, and a renowned plant research and conservation organization. Wrapped in the glow of twinkling lights, model trains and trolleys zip along over winding tracks past scaled replicas of New York Landmarks. Orange slices, cinnamon sticks, poppy pods, pine cones and a host of plant materials are used to create the more than 140 architectural reproductions. The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, The Brooklyn Bridge and Yankee Stadium are just a few examples. Holiday Kick-Off Community Event Saturday, Dec 7th

Please join us on Saturday, December 7th at the Groton Senior Center from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm for a free family-friendly event celebrating the holidays. This event is sponsored by the Town of Groton Parks & Recreation Department and the Mystic Chamber of Commerce.

Local student carolers will start it all off with carols at 4:30 pm.
