TRIAD Tuesday Program

On second Tuesday of each month Groton Senior Center presents T.R.I.A.D. Tuesday Program – which is when Groton Police Officer Robertson joins us and answers questions in a casual lunch atmosphere in our main room.  This is free and open to the public 11:45 am  to 12:45 pm.  Next date will be Tuesday, July 10th.   If you would rather have your question asked anonymously, we have a TRIAD Tuesday Question Box. One can submit their question into the box and it will be addressed during the program.  Questions regarding this can be addressed to Groton Senior Center at 860-441-6785.

T.R.I.A.D. Program was formed to promote older adult safety and reduce the fear of crime that older adults often experience through the partnership of Groton Town Police, Peoples United Bank and Groton Senior Center.

AUGUST 14TH LEDGE LIGHTHOUSE TOUR

TUESDAY, AUGUST 14TH LEDGE LIGHTHOUSE TOUR
WITH LEDGE LIGHT FOUNDATION

Ledge Light Station, built in 1909, is one of the most famous lighthouses in America. Its stately brick structure with mansard roof, makes it unique. There is no other lighthouse like it.

This trip is one of only four charters LLF has booked for this year. This tour is a rare opportunity to see Ledge Light this year.

Our private charter for this tour will commence at 4 pm at the Project O building on the UConn campus at Avery Point, After checking in with LLF volunteers, guests will view an informative documentary film. After a safety briefing by the Project O boat crew. Step on board the comfortable Project O boat, and take a pleasant 10 -15 minute narrated ride to Ledge Light at the mouth of the Thames River. The lighthouse is offshore, surrounded by water on all four sides. Access does require some degree of mobility, as you step off the boat onto the landing ledge and climb up a stairway to the entrance to the lighthouse. Once inside, LLF volunteer tour guides will be on hand to answer questions as you explore rooms filled with informational and historical exhibit panels and photographs. There’s an air conditioned theater where you will watch a compelling orientation film. You will be free to wander the rooms of the lighthouse, including the light tower at the top, dreaming of what life was like back in the day when keepers lived their secluded lives in the middle of the sea. There’s a room furnished as it would have been when the keepers were there. Maybe you’ll even run into Ernie, the resident ghost! There are benches outside circling the perimeter where you can sit and enjoy the best views in town while waiting for the boat to return you to shore. Your entire excursion will take 2 1/2 hours- Our tour time is 4:30– 7 pm. Cost is $55/resident. This trip is open to anyone 18 and older.
You can register online at www.grotonrec.com or by calling 860-441-6785.

DARKEST HOUR
A thrilling and inspiring true story begins at the precipice of World War II as, within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill (Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman) must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation. As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history. PG-13 Drama/History 2h 5m
