Thursday, September 28th- Mini-Trip to Wright’s Farm Restaurant & Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery Harrisville & North Smithfield, RI

Enjoy a delicious, all you can eat, family-style chicken luncheon at Wright’s Farm Restaurant!  Your fabulous meal consists of dinner rolls with butter, fresh green salad with Wright’s Farm Classic Italian dressing, pasta with red sauce, Wright’s amazing French fries and of course Wright’s famous, tender and juicy roast chicken.  Included with your meal will be coffee or tea and if you have room – ice cream for dessert!

Following lunch, a short ride brings you to Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery.  Wright’s Bakery specializes in a number of baked goods, including dessert cakes, cupcakes, cream pastries, flaky pastries, pies, bars, sweet rolls and buns, plenty of assorted cookies and much more!

Their bakery is renowned for using only the highest quality ingredients including fresh milk and cream from their own cows.  Fresh dairy products are also available including milk, cream, coffee milk, chocolate milk, cheddar cheese and ice cream!  Be sure to buy some treats to bring home!

Bus leaves Senior Center at 10:15am and returns approximately 4:30pm.  Limited seats available.

Cost: $18   No refunds given after September 20th unless your spot is filled.

This trip is open to Senior Center Members ONLY.  You may register yourself plus one additional member when you call in to sign up.  You must be an up-to-date member.

 

Sunday, September, 17th- Family Day at Mohegan Park

Time: 11:00am- 3:00pm

The 15th Annual Norwich Family Day will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17th at Mohegan Park in Norwich.  The goal for the day is to foster fun, play and community education and awareness about all the “good” in Norwich!  Multiple organizations will have tables with information and handouts available along with demonstrations and free hot dogs and drinks!

 

September- Committee Volunteers Needed

The City of Norwich has several openings on various committees and could use your assistance to fill them.  Many committees have training opportunities available to help add to your knowledge while helping our community grow.  Restrictions and conditions apply to be eligible.

Starting September 12th- Golden Nuggets

Tuesdays  1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

The Golden Nuggets is Rose City Senior Center’s glee club and they are looking for new members. Singers of any level of experience are welcome to join them. Now is a great time to join this talented group as they start back from their Summer break and start preparing for their Holiday Concert series!

If you are interested in joining the Golden Nuggets, you must join by September 26th.  Anyone wishing to join after that date will be accepted on a case by case basis.

 

Welcome new Director of the Golden Nuggets James Conover!

James Conover will be taking over as the new Director of the Golden Nuggets.  James has an impressive background in music including being retired as a Musician Chief from the US Coast Guard Band where he played the French horn. 

James is currently the Choir Director at Bishop Seabury Church in Groton and also plays French horn in the Lisbon Community Band and New London Community Band as well as being a Vocal Soloist at St. James Episcopal Church, St. Michael RC Church and Pequot Chapel.  James was previously a Vocal Soloist with Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus.

 

Fitness Room

The Rose City Senior Center has a Fitness Room consisting of 2 recumbent bikes, 1 upright bike and 2 treadmills.  The Fitness Room is available to current Members of the Rose City Senior Center only (see bottom of page 11 for Membership information). 

Completed and signed copies of the Release and Waiver Form and Physician’s Questionnaire must be turned in before using the equipment.  A copy of each of these

forms can be picked up at Reception along with a copy of the Fitness Room Criteria and Rules.

Please be aware that the Fitness Room is closed on the first Friday of every month from 8:45am – 4:00pm due to massage therapy, otherwise the room is available during our normal hours of operation.

Massage Therapy – Room Changes

Starting September 6th, most Massage Therapy appointments will now be held in the Senior Center Health Clinic.  Please be aware that Massage Therapy appointments scheduled on the 1st Friday of every month will still be held in the Fitness Room.  

Massage Therapy appointments with Marie Arsenault are available at $25 for a ½ hour session or $50 for a 1 hour session.  Appointments are required.  Please leave your name and phone number at Reception and Marie will call you to schedule your appointment as soon as possible.

9:00am to Noon

No Appointment Necessary – Just Walk-In

Vaccine covered by Medicare, ConnectiCare Medicare Advantage Plans, Aetna Medicare Advantage Plans, Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans.  For those under 65 years old, vaccine covered by Aetna, Anthem and ConnectiCare.  The cost of a self-pay vaccination is $40.

Please bring a copy of your driver’s license and insurance card.  The reason for this is twofold, it provides your identification and information needed to bill your insurance.  It will also allow the nurses to proceed quickly without the burden of photocopying driver’s licenses or insurance cards.

September- Birthday Celebration

The July Birthday Celebration honored 4 seniors: Norma Parrish, Beverly Bayer, Marion Sheridan and Barbara Chappell who won a gift card to Stop and ShopHappy Birthday to you all!

The Birthday Celebration for September will be on September 27th at 11:45 a.m.  You must sign up in the Dining Room for lunch that day to be eligible for the drawing.
