Pickleball- Mondays

Time: 1:00pm

Pickleball is a paddle ball sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.  It is a fun game that is played on a badminton-sized court with the net lowered to 34 inches.  It is played with a plastic ball (similar to a wiffle ball) and a paddle.  It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced competitive game for experienced players.  Stop by and check it out!  Beginners welcome!

2018 brings successes and challenges. As I look back I see the 50% growth of www.SeniorCenterCt.org. As I look forward I see the challenge of matching that 50% growth plus expanding Jencks Network. I’m thankful for what has happened and hopeful of what the future holds.

And that brings me to this little ditty I wrote…

What is old??  Me? NO!  You? NO!  Them?? Of course, it’s them… not us! Right!

Is old turning 40? 50?  Oh, wait I’m past those, so it must be 70…80…90???

Hey all I know is it’s not me right now. I don’t feel old – however that feels –  and I sure as heck don’t look my age – as I stamp my foot!

So, if we are not old….

Then we can and will do everything we have ever done. Right?

We will continue to learn and do new things.

We will be trendsetters.

We will reinvent ourselves again!

We will find new paths.

We will not say “Oh I’m too old for that”

We will not say “I can’t do that.”

We will not say “I always wanted to do that.”

We will not say “If I was younger…”

I know what I will do!

I will take smart risks.

I will set attainable goals.

I will reach for the impossible.

I will push forward, and I hope you join me on the aging journey!!

Because if we don’t age in a positive fashion…..

– tell me what the alternative is!

-Judy Jencks

Thursday, April 26th- Trip to 9/11 Memorial & Museum with time at Chelsea Market

6:30 AM Depart Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive, Norwich

8:45 PM Approximate return time to Norwich

Your memorable day starts with time on your own to shop and dine at Chelsea Market in Manhattan.  Built in the former National Biscuit Company factory complex, Chelsea Market fills two entire city blocks.  This enclosed building is now home to an urban food court, restaurants and food stores.  Chelsea Market also houses television production companies including The Food Network.

Following lunch, you will be dropped off at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.  Build on the former World Trade Center site, the Memorial & Museum is a tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools, each nearly one acre in size, sit within the footprints of where the Twin Towers once stood and have the names of those who died inscribed into bronze panels edging the pools.

Opened in 2014, the Museum tells the story of 9/11 through multimedia displays, archives, narratives and a collection of monumental and authentic artifacts.  The museum presents the intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning and recovery in the telling of the story of the 9/11 attacks and aftermath.

COST: $66 per person  includes admission to 9/11 Memorial & Museum and transportation.

Driver tip is not included.  Lunch is on your own at Chelsea Market.

There will be one rest stop on the way to New York and one on the return trip home.
