Waterford Senior Services is offering a program, Open Doors, for those with mild to mid-stage memory loss,dementia, or cognitive challenges. The program provides socialization, stimulating activities, a comfortable environment, and a place for participants to achieve success. Please contact Senior Services at 860-444-5839 to request an enrollment packet or to learn more about this program.

There is no fee to attend Open Doors. Donations are accepted. This program is supported by the Senior Resources – Agency on Aging with Title III funds made available under the Older Americans Act. All older persons age 60+ are eligible for services

 

Wednesday, August 7th- Mature Driver Safety Class

Time: 9:15am to 1:15pm

This course reviews and reinforces safe driving skills. No driving test and no written test. Contact your automobile insurance company regarding a potential discount with completion of the course.

Where: East Lyme Public Library

How: Register with the Senior Center in person. Payment is expected at time of registration.

Do you suffer from aching, tired or swollen legs? Do you have unsightly varicose and spider veins?  Come learn about potential causes and treatments for varicose vein disease at an informational talk by Peter Hahn, MD.  He has been treating patients in eastern CT for the past 5 years, and recently established Advanced Vein Associates. Dr. Hahn is excited to share his knowledge and experience with patrons at Griswold Senior Center.

New DISCOVER CONNECTIONS Program is for those with beginning to mild cognitive challenges

This new program is a welcoming and nurturing program designed for individuals 55 and over with varied needs including those persons with beginning to mild cognitive challenges or anyone at risk for social isolation.   The activities are planned to be fun with a purpose.  They may stimulate memories or test the brain to solve a problem.  New experiences will be offered involving art, music, cultural topics, history and more.  This program is a social model for programming and no skilled care is provided by staff. Individuals who would like to participate must be comfortable in a group setting.

Discover Connections is scheduled in eight (8) week sessions as all other programs at the Center.  Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am-1pm. Lunch will be from 12pm to 1pm.  Participants can bring their lunch or purchase lunch as the Coastal Café in the Senior Center.

Participants must meet with facilitators prior to class for paperwork completion.   Please call for more details and to schedule an interview.   860-441-6785
