Friday, March 3- Free Dental Screening

FREE dental screening at the Senior Center!
Friday, every other month, by appointment.
Sign-ups are on the bulletin board. Goody
bags will be handed out to each participant!
Dental is not a service covered by Medicare!
Don’t let your teeth to without a check-up!
Please sign up on the bulletin board if you
would like to see Dr. Danielle Trudell, licensed
and insured, for a free dental screening,
information, and goody bag!
Dr. Trudell will be here once a month on a
Friday for the screenings.

Mayans of Mexico. Brandon Hall of Learn Around the World will provide insight a, pictures and video from his trip to view remnants of the Mayan’s in Mexico Please join us for this presentation

Grab your passports and hiking boots because we are exploring three Mayan cities on this program. While in the jungles of Mexico and Guatemala, you’ll tour the cities of Palenque, Tulum, and Tikal while learning about the Ancient Mayans. Join a CA State Park Educator, and a CA State Park Gardener on a walk through the Gardens of Hearst Castle, discovering the many plant species that grow in this historic garden. Explore the challenges of maintaining a “historic garden”, and the processes that are involved in ensuring that the gardens are kept as historically accurate as possible.

SENIOR & DISABLED HOMEOWNERS’ TAX RELIEF

The State of Connecticut offers a state run Elderly Tax Benefit known as the Circuit Breaker. It is for

eligible real estate taxpayers with the Town of East Lyme. To apply, you must have reached the age of 65 prior to December 31, 2016 or be totally disabled if under the age of 65. You are applying for a credit on the taxes due on your primary residence in East Lyme. Under the law, Social Security income MUST be declared and the program requires you to provide information regarding all income received during 2016. The new income limit, INCLUDING Social Security, is:

$42,900 for married couples and $35,200 for single persons.

LOCAL TAX CREDIT OPTION: Also, the Town of East Lyme provides on

Additional Tax Relief for elderly and totally disabled homeowners. If eligible, the tax credit will range from $300 – $1,000 off the tax bill depending on the applicant’s income. The maximum 2016 income is $42,900 regardless of martial status.

Filing dates for the above programs are February 1, through May 15, 2017.

Applications available at the Assessor’s Office in the East Lyme Town Hall. There is also a Veteran’s Exemption that is available. For more information, contact the Assessor’s Office.
