An oil painting demonstration will be done by Artist Tom Torrenti. Tom is an elected member of the Lyme Art Association and first exhibited there in 1969. A graduate of Paier College, Torrenti is an artist based in Westbrook, CT, with over 50 years of painting experience. Come enjoy watching this talented oil painter. This demonstration is free. Call to reserve your seat at this free event.

If you are interested in taking his oil painting classes Tom will be holding them on Tuesdays in October from 12:30pm-3:30pm. Instructor Tom begins with a demo of
a reference photo supplied by a student. Then he guides the class. A critique follows at 3:15pm. The cost of this 3 hour class is $25.00 a class, payable in advance. Please

Working from photo references students will use these brilliantly colored creatures as the main subject in small sized paintings. Learning to paint clean and precise will be the lesson here.

The Schooner ARGIA is one of the last sailing ships in New England. You’ll discover islands, lighthouses and the beauty of sailing aboard a traditional sailing ship. The ship will sail in cloudy and light drizzle weather conditions; please dress for the weather by wearing an extra layer and bringing a jacket. There is a bathroom on board, however you would need to climb a ladder to access it.

The schooner sails out of downtown Mystic from 9:30 – 11:30 am. We meet at the dock at 9 am. Those needing transportation– we depart Thrive 55+ at 8: 40 am.

Cost is $34 resident/$44 non resident.

We are excited to let you know we are finalizing the details of a new program called Tuesday at Five. We will have entertainment once a month on a Tuesday evening here at Thrive 55+ Active Living Center.

Come enjoy an autumn afternoon of socializing and snacking while learning to paint a beautiful autumn scene that you will get to keep! You will be instructed through an easy step by step tutorial that will allow for each to accomplish a masterpiece.
