Neighbors Helping Neighbors!

Now more than ever community support is so important and impactful! The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) others the support someone  needs to remain living at home either with grocery shopping needs or  phone reassurance. If you are 55+ contact us to hear how your help may  improve the quality of life of an elderly or disabled person by volunteering around your schedule to help a neighbor in your community. We are here to engage, enlighten, and inspire each other.

As we close out the year 2021

We look back and reflect on all that has happened.  Because of Covid, the Center remained closed for programming — safe distancing was not possible.   But, we continued to provide many services by appointment — Medicare, Social Security, Rental Rebates, Energy Assistance, all social service needs for seniors and families, and so much more.   On-site lunches with TVCCA resumed.  We also continued our FREE Grab-and-Go meals for the seniors.  To date, we have  provided these meals for 21 months — that’s OVER 2,000 FREE MEALS.  And we could not have done it without the continued generosity of our partner donors — THANK YOU!  When schools were working remotely, we continued to pick up and deliver lunches to students who were not able to get to the school for pick up.  We worked with First Congregational Church to provide both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to families in town.  And, we were able to ensure that the American Legion Thanksgiving meals were delivered once again this year despite Covid.  Staff and volunteers worked together to  prepare and deliver over 200 meals throughout the community.  All of this while we worked to keep the new senior center moving forward — and things are looking great.  We believe that 2022 will bring many new blessings.  We wish each and every one of you a very happy and healthy New Year — we will see you soon!

WITH LOVE FROM  YOUR SENIOR CENTER STAFF

Carly returns to New York and on the next morning, Kate visits her at her job to get information about her relationship with her husband. They conclude that he is a cheater and befriend each other. Symptoms To Look For…

Please join us on Wednesday, January 12th at 1:00pm as local EMTs, Doug Lo Presti and Colleen Atkinson provide an informative and practical presentation on what you can do to recognize and
react to common medical concerns. They will discuss when/why to call 911, how you can help us get to you, what to do before we arrive and how to recognize and help someone potentially having a stroke, heart attack or a bleeding emergency. They will give you tips and answer any specific questions you may have about the 911 system. Call (860) 434-4127 to register

“Quilty Pleasures”.

Will meet once a month (the third Wednesday of the Month) starting on January 19th at 10am. If you are interested please let me know. My thought is that it could be a group of people that
would come together to work on their individual projects. You would need to bring your own sewing machine although we MAY have one for people to share if needed. This
group would give people a chance to share your quilting passion, borrow ideas off each other and even in the future could look at hire guest instructors for a specific project if that is what the group wants. Please email me at sgould@oldlyme-ct.gov OR call (860)434-4127 and let us know if you can attend our kickoff get together January 19th at 10am. Feel free to bring some of your finished projects to share with the group and any you want to work on during this get-together.
