SECT Community of the Blind in New London CT is the only non-profit organization that serves the blind and visually impaired community. They will talk about our new Center, their programs and upcoming events. And present items that are for sale in their retail store that will assist many living with impaired vision or blindness. They will also talk about a variety of resources that are available for those living with impaired vision or blindness.

Monday, August 21st from 11:00-12:00pm

Nancy Souza, Card Maker, Mixed Media Artist and Altenew Certified Educator will help us transform a plain wooden easel into a one of a kind decorated photo easel to display your favorite photos or special paper items. Create painted paper for the die cut layered flowers, paint a weathered background and add additional items to complete your unique upgraded easel. Learn some new techniques and admire your new project.

Teresa Resnick from the Haddam Sustainability Committee will share with us several ways we can be conscientious of our waste and how to reduce it for the health of our planet.

• Non toxic weed eaters

uplifting arrangement that is a perfect pick me up to keep for yourself or give as a thoughtful gift. Montville Florist will walk you through the creation of this
arrangement step by step, so you will leave with a finished product to enjoy.

Objective: Share some knowledge about the native language of Ireland

Topics: Irish Gaelic – Gaeilge – in the family of Celtic languages – History of Gaeilge – Who speaks Irish now, and where – What makes Gaeilge different from other languages – Gaelic words/phrases integrated into the English language – “Teach” some basic phrases – Wrap up with questions.

Special dessert will be served to celebrate the Irish heritage.

The Brookside Farm Museum, formerly known as the Smith-Harris House will
reintroduce this historic site to you in an informal and interactive presentation.
They will provide a background of the historic site and discuss its importance in the community of East Lyme. Archives will be presented. As a community stakeholder, she will ask for your thoughts on how Brookside Farm Museum should evolve. For those who wish to join, there will be a tour of the Brookside Farm Museum immediately following the presentation.

Our annual brick dedication will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at 1 PM with a rain date being August 23rd. All are welcome to attend. Please call to register. Refreshments will be served. Honored in this year’s dedication will be Martha Ames, Justin Bogucki, Donna Burke, Ethel Chatkin, Janet Funke, Annie Griffith (B), Gerry Jacobson, Marion D. King, Beryl Lake, Altabella Pflomm, Mary Stanton, and Maggie Taylor.
