“Eat Well To Live Well”: Nutrition Series

Wednesdays at 1:00pm starting July 3rd through August 7th

 

Join UConn Healthy Family CT for a 6-week, interactive nutrition series. Together, we’ll engage in conversation about eating to support your health and wellness. From debunking common dietary myths, learning practical strategies for meal planning and preparation, to discussing eating to support bone and heart health, each week offers valuable insights and actionable steps toward reaching your nutrition goals. Spend smart, eat well, feel great!

Dining Out Program

Dining Out is our way of giving back to the community that gives to us. An evening outing of dining, socializing, and enjoyment! Each month one special restaurant will be featured. Our van will pick you up or you can meet us there. Each person pays their own tab. Order a full entrée or just appetizers.   Registration required.  860-441-6785

Healthy Snacks and Screenings

Thursday, July 25th  at 1:00 p.m.

Hartford Healthcare Registered Dietitian Shannon will be demonstrating how to make tasty, healthy snacks.  She will also be sharing ways to modify the snacks based on your

dietary restrictions or health conditions, such as gluten intolerance or diabetes.  Samples of the healthy snacks she makes during the demonstration will be given out to those in attendance.

Shannon will be available to answer your questions about healthy snacking and will be providing informational hand-outs/recipes.  After the demonstration, Hartford Healthcare Community Health Nurse Barbara will be also be providing free blood pressure checks and blood sugar screenings.

Pickleball Lessons for New Players

Interested in learning how to play Pickleball?  Now is your chance!

Pickleball lessons are available for Senior Center Members who have never played Pickleball and are brand new to the game.  You can quickly learn the basics in a few classes.  Lessons will be available on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. and held on the outdoor Pickleball Courts.  Equipment will be provided.

You must sign up at Reception if you are interested.  Class size is limited.

Instruction will be given by Senior Center member (and current Pickleball player) Bob.

 

Outdoor Pickleball Courts

The outdoor Pickleball Courts are reserved for classes on the following:

Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Wednesdays 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Thursdays 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Courts are open to Senior Center Members only during our normal business hours and are available on a first-come, first-served bases on days/times not listed above.  Use the courts at your own risk

Beltone Hearing Aid Clinic

Thursday, July 18th from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

A Hearing Care Practitioner from Beltone will be at Rose City Senior Center for cleaning and checking all makes and models of hearing aids.  They will also be available to answer any questions you may have about hearing aids and hearing health.  This is a free service.  An appointment is needed.

Recovery Support Group

Wednesday, July 17th at 1:00 p.m.

If you or a loved one has been affected by substance abuse/recovery, please join us. 

These meetings are based on the idea that there are great benefits in bringing individuals together from various pathways of recovery to share and learn from one another. Join Nurse Barbara as she leads this monthly group discussion and gives support.  Meetings are open to any senior in recovery along with seniors who have a loved one struggling with substance abuse or impacted by addiction.

Group meetings will be on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

Healthy Habits Presentation

Friday, July 26th  at 10:00 a.m.

A different health related topic will be discussed each month. 

Join Nurse Barbara as she provides helpful information, education, and leads a group discussion on ways to form and maintain Healthy Habits.  Group meets on the last Friday of the month at 10:00 a.m.
