Beginner Tai Chi & Qi Gong

Fridays from 1:30-2:30pm 

Starting October 21st 

 

Cost: $65 for a 6 week session (no class on 11/11 & 11/25)

Interested in learning Tai Chi & Qi Gong?  This class is for you!  Participants of all abilities will learn Tai Chi movements, postures, meditation, and breathing techniques to promote physical and mental well-being and longevity.  Qi Gong can help to reduce stress and anxiety and to help with a variety of other health conditions.  This class is for beginners with no experience or limited experience.

Not sure if this class is for you?  Try the 1st class with no obligation.  Payment is due by the 2nd week.

Ken Keeley Book Signing

Wednesday, October 19th from 11:00am-1:00pm

 

Norwich author Ken Keeley will be at the Senior Center to sell his books and do a book signing.  Ken’s amazing books offer a pictorial history of Norwich.  Some of his books which will be for sale include History of the Rose Arts Festival; Norwich – The First 300 Years; Memories of a Norwich Boomer; Norwich – Yesterday and Today and his new book, History of Norwich Little League.

Books Cost $20 for Senior Center Members.

 

Fire Prevention and Safety Presentation

Wednesday, October 19th at 10:00am 

 

Presentation by The City of Norwich Fire Marshal

October is Fire Prevention Month.  Join us for this informative presentation which will cover the causes of most home fires and what you can do to help prevent a fire.  Topics will include cooking safety, electrical safety, heating, smoking and more.  Fire Prevention handouts will be given.

iPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY : A 3-PART WORKSHOP SERIES & EVENTS

On  October 5th, 10:00am, a Hands-on workshop will be held where you will learn how to use all the apps available on our iPhone to edit our favorite images. Also learn how to use online photo developing services such as Walgreen’s photo services or Mpix to quickly and inexpensively make photos.
On November 2nd , 10:00am, a Hands-on workshop will be held where you will learn how to inexpensively mat and frame our best and favorite images so that they are ready to hang or give as a gift.

This workshop is Free for members ($10 each for non-members)
*All workshops are taught by local photographer, Fred Verillo.

only excepting alternates, Thursday’s group is Duplicate Bridge and is open to newcomers.

· Wii Bowling– Meets Thursdays at 12:30pm– This is a fun video game bowling experience
with hearty, but fun competition

· Bocce Ball– Meets Tuesdays at 4:30pm

· Horseshoes– Meets Fridays at 1pm

· Cribbage– Meets Fridays at 1pm

· Scrabble– Meets Fridays at 1pm

· Corn Hole– Meets Wednesdays at 1pm

Do you wish you could get a better nights sleep?

The Lymes’ Senior center in collaboration with the OL VNA , will co-sponsor a new “Wellness Wednesday” program monthly. On Wednesday, October 19th at 1:00pm, Occupational Therapist & owner of Radiant Journey, Jennifer Hirschberg-Wise will be presenting a better sleep program. Sleep disturbances are so prevalent in our society that to be sleep deprived and functioning on stimulants is accepted as “normal” functioning.
During this experiential 60-minute workshop, we will take a deeper look at the structure of sleep and how sleep disturbances diminish function and quality of life. Learn how to apply evidence-based principles of a sleep routine and other meditative practices to create a better sleeping environment and practices to promote more restful sleep and improve functioning.

Upcoming Lifelong Learning Lecture: Connecticut Witch Trials

On Wednesday, October 26th at 1:00pm with the Bow Tie Historian, Jason Scappaticci.
There are few people who know witch trials even took place outside of Salem. However, Connecticut led the way in the prosecution and execution of witches almost 50 years before the Salem Witch Trials began. This lecture is free for members ($10 each for non-members). Call to pre-register,

Free Flu Clinic

A free flu clinic, sponsored by the OL VNA, will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 10am-1pm at the LOL Middle School. Please bring proof of Lyme or Old Lyme residency with you. This will be in a drive thru format.

Sea Glass Craft Class

On Monday, October 24th from 1:00-2:30pm. Victoria Woolard of Still Waters USA, a small female owned business based out of Westbrook Connecticut, will be on site teaching guests how to make their own wire wrapped starfish ornaments! (See picture) They will be made with sea glass picked from Connecticut, Maryland, California and Rhode Island Beaches or freshwater Pearl. This class will cost $25.00 due to Victoria upon arrival. All materials are included in the class cost. Please pre-register by October 17th
