AARP Driver Safety Smart Driver Course

Thursday, August 18th from 9:00am-1:00pm

* please arrive by 8:45

 

The AARP Smart Driver™ course, is a classroom based refresher course for drivers age 50 and older.  This 4 hour, in-person class will give you useful information to help keep you safe on the roads. You could even save money on your insurance!  Auto insurance companies in most states provide a multi-year discount after showing proof of completing the course.  Please consult your auto insurance company about the discounts available to you from taking this class. 

Cost: $20 AARP Members      $25 AARP Non-Members

Pay directly to AARP by check or cash on the day of the class

Identifying Fraud: Don’t Be A Target Presentation

Presentation by Shannon Wallace, Navy Federal Credit Union

In this very important presentation, learn about the different ways scammers are targeting people by using phone, text, romance, social media, email/mail, “IRS”, and donation scams along with several others.  You will learn the “red flags” of what to look for in a scam and ways to protect yourself.  Scams are unfortunately a fact of life, but you don’t have to be a victim.  Join us and become more aware on how to prevent them from ruining your identity and finances.

Life is a Balancing Act Presentation

This Balance & Fall Prevention presentation will focus on the changes in balance individuals commonly see as they age which contributes to your increased risk of falling.  Learn ways of fall prevention and the importance of exercise to help maintain or improve balance as you age.

DINING OUT PROGRAM Tuesday, August 16

In August we do DINING OUT at Olive Garden 5:00 pm on Tuesday  August 16.

 

The community gives to us; Dining Out is our way of giving back to the community. An evening outing of dining, socializing, and enjoyment!

Each month one special restaurant will be featured. Our van will pick you up or you can meet us there. Each person pays their own tab at the restaurant. Order a full entrée or just appetizers.

Community Event- Groton Outdoor Market August 6

Saturday, August 6th from 9:00am-2:00pm

Free and open to all ages in our community

 

Join us on the grassy area at the entrance of the Senior Center/Library parking lot for our second annual Groton Outdoor Market.

There will be crafts, antiques, art, household items, and baked goods for sale. The Circle of Friends will have a “Name Your Own Price” Book Sale.

Bring a blanket or chair and sit in the shade while eating, listening to music, and enjoying a beautiful day at the Market.

This event is sponsored by the Groton Public Library and Thrive55+.

Bake Sale Donations for August 6

We love when you bake for us!! 

We are looking for bakers to please donate baked goods for the Annual OUTDOOR MARKET event on Saturday, August 6, 2022. We request that bakers donate non frosted brownies, cookies, etc. Items should be individually wrapped.

Please bring your donated bake sale items to Thrive 55+ Center on Friday, August 5th between 9:00 am  and 4:00pm  or you may bring them directly to the event that Saturday.
