Craft Classes ~Spring Craft on Friday, May 6th and May 20th at 10:00am

Make simple Spring crafts to take home and enjoy for the Season!  This easy crafts are good for beginners but all are welcome to join.  All materials will be supplied.

This class is free for Senior Center Members and led by our very crafty volunteer Joyce.

Class size will be limited and you need to sign up in advance to join the class.

Book for Sale- White Gloves by Karen Warfield

Set in Norwich, CT in the 1860’s, White Gloves is an historical fiction novel with themes of mystery, intrigue, deception, and redemption.  Follow the story of Edwina Wojneck, a poor girl living with her family who always felt there was more to life than washing clothes and being belittled by her Mummy.

After her glamorous Aunt Vi gives her a taste of the finer things in life, Edwina is whisked off to a new “station” – being a maid in Rochurst Manor.  While there Edwina learns of the strange and disturbing past of Master Rochurst, and the tragic present circumstances of the ladies of the house!

Book Price ~ Senior Center Members: $12.00    Non-Members: $17.00

Purchase Book at Reception.  All proceeds will benefit the Rose City Senior Center.

Book Discussion: Karen Warfield will be here in late Summer/early Fall for a book discussion for those who are interested after reading the book.   The date is not yet scheduled.

Book Loan: The Senior Center has two copies of White Gloves to loan out (two week loan time) for Senior Center Members not able to purchase a book.  Please see Hilary if you are interested.

 

Renter’s Rebate Program ~2022

A program for low income elderly (65+) or disabled individuals who have rented in CT in 2021 and have not applied for the homeowners Circuit Breaker Program.  Program open through October 1, 2022.

You must apply in the town you are currently living in and have rented in Connecticut in 2021.

Income Limits:

Single: $38,100 yearly or less                         Couple: $46,400 yearly or less

If you are under 55 and a Norwich resident, call Norwich Human Services at (860) 823-3778.

If you reside in Senior Housing, please call your

TVCCA Assistance Program 2021-2022

Eligibility is based on income, family size, assets, and expenses. 

Energy Assistance ~ Provides assistance towards a homes primary source of heat – oil, natural gas, electricity, propane, kerosene, coal, wood or wood pellets.

Water Assistance ~ This is a one-time water assistance benefit to help with restoration of household water services to disconnected homes; reduction of overdue water bills; and prevention of service disconnection.  Help is available for both household water and wastewater bills.

Income Limits:  Household Size: 1 2 3

Annual Income     $39,027 $51,035 $63,044

► Last Day to Apply: May 31, 2022

Payments are made directly to your utility, fuel or water provider.

Counseling Services available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

The Rose City Senior Center offers counseling services for our Senior Center members.  Individual and Family Counseling for positive mental health and well-being is available.  In-person appointments are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays or talk with a counselor by phone.

Appointments are available with:

Kerri Redner, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Mondays 9:00-12:00pm and Thursdays 10:15-12:15pm. 

Angelo Callis, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Wednesdays 12:00-2:30pm.

Property Rehab and Lead Paint Programs- Wednesday, May 11th 9:30-11:30am

Sandra Gaitan-Brown, Lead Program Community Liaison, from the City of Norwich Community Development Office will be here to answer questions on the following loan programs.

Owner Occupant Income Limits (# in Household):  $55,950 (1), $63,950 (2), $71,950 (3)

  • Property Rehabilitation Program

0% interest deferred loan for roofs repairs/replacement, windows, heating systems, electrical system repairs, Handicapped accessibility improvements and more.

Owner/Occupant individuals 62+ : 0% interest loan is due 30 years from the date of the lien or at the transfer or sale of the property or if the owner no longer resides in the premises.

  • Lead Paint Hazard Control Program

0% interest deferred Lead Grants/Loan and forgiven at the rate of 10% per year for owner/occupant.   No payments are required unless the property is sold or transferred within 10 years of completion.

Creative Arts Group – Meets Mondays at 10:00am

Starting May 2nd  – Group lead by Kerri Redner, LCSW, RYT, C-MI

This is a 6 week series meeting on Mondays which will focus on a variety of music, movement (in chair), writing and art.  Any member of Rose Arts Senior Center can participate.  This program is free.  Participants can join any time during the 6 weeks of classes.  First class is Monday, May 2nd.    Classes will meet on May 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and June 6th & 13th

Tai Chi & Qi Gong ~ Continuing Class – Fridays at 12:00-1:30pm

Cost: $85 per 8 week session

The Tai Chi & Qi Gong continuing class will start a new session on Friday, May 6th from 12 – 1:30 p.m.

This class is open to senior members who have previously taken Tai Chi and familiar with form and movement.   Not sure if this is the right class for you?  Stop in, talk to the instructor and give it a try!
