Household Hazardous Waste Collection & Paper Shredding- Saturday, June 18th from 9:00-1:00pm

Location: Norwich Public Works – 50 Clinton Ave.

The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resource Recovery Authority (SCRRRA) will be at Norwich Public Works in June to collect household hazardous waste and offer confidential paper shredding.

Items that will be collected include: latex & oil paint, stains & varnish, paint thinner, oven cleaner, kerosene, old gasoline, light bulbs, home batteries, insecticides, fungicides, pool chemicals and more!

Garden Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for volunteers to help the Senior Center gardeners with weeding and watering in the outdoor vegetable garden.  This volunteer position requires standing, bending, squatting, etc. in order to get the job done.  Gardening experience is not required but may be helpful.  You will work under the direction of the Senior Center gardeners.  Gardening help is needed June – September, 1 or 2 days per week.

This volunteer position is open to Senior Center Members only.

Active Living Expo is Wednesday, May 11th

Our ever popular ACTIVE LIVING EXPO is taking place this year on Wednesday, May 11th 10 am to 1 pm.  This is FREE and open to anyone to attend!

Aerobics- Mondays and Fridays at 9:00am

Instructor: Christine Healy

This aerobics exercise class combines rhythmic movements with stretching and strength training routines all done to a variety of music! The goal of this class is to improve flexibility, muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Pickleball- Mondays at 1:30pm and Thursdays at 1:00pm

Location: Program Room

Pickleball is a paddle ball sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.  It is a fun game that is played on a badminton-sized court with the net lowered to 34 inches.  It is played with a plastic ball (similar to a whiffle ball) and a paddle.  It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced competitive game for experienced players.  Stop by and check it out!  Beginners welcome!

Volunteer Knitting & Crocheting Group- Thursdays at 1:00pm

Location: Dining Room

This wonderful group makes chemo caps, lap robes, prayer shawls, blankets, hats, etc. which are donated to various local organizations including the ECHO Cancer Foundation at Backus Hospital, Project Linus, VFW and local schools. These donations are a loving gift to cancer patients, children, homeless and to those in need.
The senior center provides donated yarn as available to this group.

 

Indoor Walking Group- Wednesdays from 1:00- 3:30pm and  Fridays from 2:00- 3:30pm

Location: Program Room
Too hot or rainy to walk outside?  Don’t like walking on a treadmill?  Try Indoor Walking Group!
The program room will be available for those who would like to walk indoor but not on a treadmill.  The room is air conditioned and has a TV if you would like a little entertainment while walking.  A great way to get together with others to walk and talk, or just walk by yourself, in a safe environment indoors.

Mahjong- Wednesdays at 12:30pm

The Mahjong group is looking for more players!  Some knowledge of how the game is played is helpful, as this group is more advanced.  Stop by on a Wednesday if you are interested in joining.

 

Strength and Flexibility Exercise- Wednesdays at 9:00am

Location: Program Room

Strength and Flexibility exercise class combines flexibility and strength training to improve your overall strength, flexibility, mobility, balance, and range of motion.  This class will incorporate the use of hand weights, resistance bands, Pilates rings and Yoga blocks to tone and strengthen.
