Bakers Battle April 23

This year our BAKERS BATTLE will be outdoors again Saturday, April 23  11:00 am to 1:00 pm

PROFESSIONAL & RECREATIONAL BAKERS competing to be declared the best! Do you love baked goods? Be a TASTER at our fundraiser!

Please join us for this delicious event as we sample delectable treats from Professional and Recreational bakers in a friendly competition to be named BEST.

Tasters $10 PP in advance OR $12 PP at the door All proceeds made will go towards Project Lifesaver.

Open to all ages. Register now! This community friendly fundraiser event takes place at 102 Newtown Road, Groton CT.

Quilt Raffle Drawing to be Held on Friday, April 29th

A beautiful quilt in various pastel shades is being raffled off with all proceeds to benefit future programs, classes and events at the Rose City Senior Center.

The handmade quilt was made by the very talented Senior Center Quilting Group. Each square of this amazing quilt was made by a different member of the quilting group.  Thank you for the wonderful donation!

Quilt size is approximately 70” x 58”

Tickets are 3 for $1, available at reception.

Drop off your items that need to be sharpened to the reception desk by Friday, April 8th.

We will be getting our Box Lunch of the Month from Flanders Fish Market on Tuesday, February 22nd. Fish and Chips which comes with fish, French fries, coleslaw and tarter sauce will be available for pick up. We will also be including bottled water OR soda with your order. We will have Coke, Diet Coke and Root beer available. Please let us know your preferred drink when you sign up. Cost is $5.00 for all members/ $7.50 for non-embers. Sign up and money are due by Tuesday, February 15th.

INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS

An introduction to classic watercolor that covers the basics you need to paint your own watercolors. Students will
learn about the materials, how to mix colors, color relationships, blend and control
washes, create textures and how to plan out a painting. Sign up for all eight sessions
or choose the ones you need the most. Preregistration and payments need to be received by the Thursday before the class. Checks can be written out to artist and instructor, Jeanette Green. Call (860)434-4127 or email sgould@oldlyme-ct.gov to reserve a spot. Also ask for list of materials that you will need.
Class 1 – March 7th, 14th (2 sessions, 4 hours) $14. About the Materials and Painting Washes
Practice marking marks with your brushes, paint color & tint samples and learn how to create
a flat, even wash and a graduated wash.
Class 2 – April 4th and 11th (2 sessions, 4 hours) $14.Mixing and Understanding Color
Learn about color relationships. Create your own color wheel from 3 primary colors. Make a
complementary color chart.
Class 3 – May 2nd, 23rd (2 sessions, 4 hours) $14. Watercolor Textures and Techniques
See how to save the white of your paper and create textures. Use tape, wax resist, salt, alcohol, saran wrap, scraping and scratching, spattering, brushwork, etc. Students will watch a
demo. then try the techniques out on their own.
Class 4 – June 6th and 13th (2 sessions, 4 hours) $14. “The Process” Planning and completing
your painting How do you start a painting? What do you do next? How do I know when it’s
finished? These are some of the questions that students ask me all the time so I have written
down the steps that I take in my painting process. Students will then paint a simple composition.
