Sat, April 24th -NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs that are currently sitting in your home. The East Lyme Police Department has a Drop Box located in its Lobby so residents can safely dispose of prescription drugs. The Drop Box is available while the PD is open so you don’t have to wait until the 24th of April.

The October 2020 Take Back Day brought in 985,392 pounds (492.7 tons) of medication. This is the largest amount ever collected in the program’s ten years!

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 by President Nixon and every sitting U.S. president since  has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week urging Americans to give their time to community outreach organizations.

 The Senior Center would like to issue its own proclamation – we miss you and can’t wait for you all to return. That time is coming soon!

 

Tue, April 13th , 12-1:15pm- Virtual U Lecture: America’s Greatest Idea: National Parks

Join AARP for a Virtual U lecture from Dr. Richard Benfield, Retired Professor of Geography from Central CT State University as he draws upon his experience to tell the story of these national landmarks. Benfield worked with the Canadian  National Parks system where he wrote the first management plan on the Canmore Corridor, the service area immediately adjacent to Banff National Park, before becoming Executive Director of the Banff – Lake Louse Chamber of Commerce.

He will also draw on his ten years teaching the National Parks and World heritage Sites course at CCSU and his travels to over 115 countries to visit and assess their National Parks system. This will involve the nature of  National Parks in East Africa, the Himalayas, South-East Asia and South America.
