National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 by President Nixon and every sitting U.S. president since has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week urging Americans to give their time to community outreach organizations.
The Senior Center would like to issue its own proclamation – we miss you and can’t wait for you all to return. That time is coming soon!
Join AARP for a Virtual U lecture from Dr. Richard Benfield, Retired Professor of Geography from Central CT State University as he draws upon his experience to tell the story of these national landmarks. Benfield worked with the Canadian National Parks system where he wrote the first management plan on the Canmore Corridor, the service area immediately adjacent to Banff National Park, before becoming Executive Director of the Banff – Lake Louse Chamber of Commerce.
He will also draw on his ten years teaching the National Parks and World heritage Sites course at CCSU and his travels to over 115 countries to visit and assess their National Parks system. This will involve the nature of National Parks in East Africa, the Himalayas, South-East Asia and South America.
