Sepsis and Aging: What to Look For?

Wednesday, December 4th at 1:00pm Mary McMahon, Clinical Director of the VNA of Southeastern CT presents Sepsis and Aging: What to Look For? Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to an infection. Without the right treatment, sepsis can cause organ failure, amputation, and death. More than 1.7 million people in the United States are diagnosed with sepsis every year – that’s one person every 20 seconds. Adults over 65 are 13 times more likely to be hospitalized than younger adults. Thousands of lives can be saved each year by simply raising awareness of its symptoms. Early recognition and treatment are key. Please call 860-434-4127 to register for this program.

News From the Thursday Quilting Group

We continue to meet weekly for two hours on Thursday afternoons and welcome any Senior Center Member to join us to learn more about making a fabric creation.  Our goals are (1) to inspire the art and craft of quilting via weekly “show and tell” times; (2) to teach the newer and the time-honored quilting and sewing techniques and (3) to create quilts that can be donated to organizations.

Recently it was a pleasure to send three completed quilts to the Hole in the Wall Gang in Ashford, CT.  In addition, some of our quilts are earmarked for the seasonal displays right here at the Senior Center.  In June, we display quilts completed by individual members and by the class as a group project.  Feel free to stop by and see what we are working on!
