Monday, August 19th- White House Memories

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to attend a Presidential function at the White House or what the Family Quarters of the White House look like?

Join us as former White House butler, Alan DeValerio tells about his experience working under three different presidents – Carter, Reagan and Bush.  He’ll give you the inside details about all the preparations involved in White House entertaining, and how it has evolved over the years from FDR to the present.  Not only will he relate his firsthand experiences with history, but he’ll pass on the stories he heard from those who have been taking care of our First Families ever since the Franklin Roosevelt administration!  Alan will also display many of the White House artifacts (menus, programs, Christmas cards, photos) that he has collected over the years.  This is a presentation that you won’t want to miss!

Please sign up at Reception  if you will be attending.

Hailing from Norwich, Connecticut, Zachary Lamothe grew up in a house built in 1752 and from an early age was always intrigued by local lore and history.  Zack studied New England history and folklore at Boston University, attaining a degree in American Studies.  He earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education at Southern Connecticut State University and has taught high school special education and history.  He is a frequent contributor to Norwich Magazine along with other publications.
