Have you ever imagined what it would be like to attend a Presidential function at the White House or what the Family Quarters of the White House look like?
Join us as former White House butler, Alan DeValerio tells about his experience working under three different presidents – Carter, Reagan and Bush. He’ll give you the inside details about all the preparations involved in White House entertaining, and how it has evolved over the years from FDR to the present. Not only will he relate his firsthand experiences with history, but he’ll pass on the stories he heard from those who have been taking care of our First Families ever since the Franklin Roosevelt administration! Alan will also display many of the White House artifacts (menus, programs, Christmas cards, photos) that he has collected over the years. This is a presentation that you won’t want to miss!
Please sign up at Reception if you will be attending.

Join us as Norwich native Zachary Lamothe discusses his two books –
Connecticut Lore: Strange, Off Kilter and Full of Surprises and More Connecticut Lore.
Learn about Connecticut’s haunted history, curious encounters, and forgotten places. Zachary Lamothe’s books take you on fascinating journeys to unique places you can visit such as Branford’s Thimble Islands and the Beckley Furnace in Canann along with interesting stories about the larger-than-life characters in Connecticut’s past such as the legendary strongman Elmer Bitgood of Griswold, the Jewett City vampires and the dead-and-ghostly religious zealot Jemima Wilkinson.
Hailing from Norwich, Connecticut, Zachary Lamothe grew up in a house built in 1752 and from an early age was always intrigued by local lore and history. Zack studied New England history and folklore at Boston University, attaining a degree in American Studies. He earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education at Southern Connecticut State University and has taught high school special education and history.
