Medicare Boot Camp

Presented by Senior Resources Agency on Aging, Medicare Bootcamp will help you understand your Medicare benefits. You will learn about Medicare A, B, C, and D, when to enroll, alternative Medicare options, and Medicare premium assistance programs. This free program will be held on August 8th at 1:00pm. No preregistration is necessary.

HOW TO GROW A BETTER BRAIN

Exercising regularly, getting plenty of sleep, and eating a balanced diet are your first steps to a stronger, healthier mind. For an extra benefit, try squeezing in this easy task as often as you can.

Here is the  sixth  of  seven tasks :

  1. Take a new route! “The brain works largely out of habit,”

“When you do something unfamiliar , your brain fires off neurotransmitters that improve communication between different regions in the brain.” Checked this one off your list?? Find other ways to disrupt your routine:  by brushing your hair with your left hand ,for example.

Smart Phone for Beginners Class

Smartphones are made to make our lives easier, but they are no help if you aren’t too sure how to use all the features. Bring your smartphone to this beginners’ class to learn how to add contacts, make a phone call, send a text, and browse the Internet. This free class will be held on August 7th for 1:00-3:00pm. COMMUNITY ANTIQUES APPRAISAL EVENT

The Groton Senior Center presents the What’s it Worth? community antiques appraisal event on Saturday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Groton Senior Center, 102 Newtown Road, Groton. The event is inspired by PBS’s “Antiques Roadshow” and features local certified appraisers on hand to meet with the public for individual discussions and appraisals of antiques, family heirlooms, and other items.

The following certified appraisers have volunteered to offer appraisals at the event. Some will also have items available for sale.
• Eldred’s Auctioneers – Specializes in Fine Arts, silver and jewelry.
• Miller’s Stamp Collecting – Specializes in stamps
• Larry Shaprio – Specializes in toys, China, paintings, art, and more
• Mike Westman – Specializes in Ethnographic, silver, oriental rugs, jewelry, Americana
• Justine Demetrick – Specializes in Designer jewelry, costume jewelry, Post War Design (MCM) modernism
• Pawcatuck Valley Coin Club – Specializes in Coins
• Wills Books – Buying and Reviewing Books for 30 years
• Nathan Liverant & Son, LLC – Specializing in furniture, art, jewelry, glass

The public is invited to bring up to two items for appraisal. The fee is $5 per item. Funds raised will benefit the Groton Senior Center’s programs and services for local seniors such as meals, social activities, and programming. Refreshments will also be available for purchase.

The senior van will pick you up or you can meet us there.

An evening outing of dining, socializing, and enjoyment!
