History of Groton/New London Submarine Base
History of the Groton/ New London Submarine Base Please join us on July 12th at 1:00pm as we celebrate Connecticut’s Submarine Century with a look back at the history of the submarine base. Eury Cantillo, Director of Education at the Submarine Force Museum, has combed the Museum’s collection to create a photographic journey through history. The tour will include aerial photos through the decades, pictures of President Franklin Roosevelt’s visit in 1940, early historic views of the base including the evolution of the waterfront and memories from each era from 19th century through the Cold War. Learn why Groton was chosen to be the site of the country’s first submarine base and why Groton is the “Submarine Capital of the World.” To register for this free program please call (860)434-1605 ext. 240.
