    Trip: “42nd Street” at the Goodspeed Opera House

    Thursday, October 27th 

    First, enjoy a delicious lunch at Olive Garden (lunch on your own).  Following lunch, a short ride will bring you to the beautiful Goodspeed Opera House for the delightful musical 42nd Street.  Set along the tranquil Connecticut River, the Goodspeed Opera House was built in 1876 by William Goodspeed.  This intimate theater brings you closer to the excitement of live musicals and will delight, inspire and entertain you with their shows!

    Set in the 1930’s, 42nd Street tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway.  Packed with plenty of pizazz, 42nd Street will set your heart pounding with its crowd-pleasing tap dances and a hit parade of songs, including “Lullaby of Broadway,” “We’re In The Money,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” and of course, “42nd Street.”

    This trip will be using the Senior Center bus for transportation. 

    You are responsible to find your own ride to the SC before the trip and home from the SC after. 

    COST: $66 per person  includes 42nd Street side orchestra ticket and transportation.

    Mini-Trip: Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock

    Tuesday, September 20th

     

    Join us for lunch at Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock in New London.  This casual, outdoor restaurant is a local favorite for seafood lovers!  They offer seafood dinners, lobster rolls, chowder, salads, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and more!  Have room for dessert?  Captain Scott’s also sells Giffords of Maine ice cream.  Located right on the water, Captain Scott’s offers beautiful views of Shaw’s Cove Marina while enjoying your lunch.

    (Please note: Dining is on outdoor picnic tables with a covered seating area available).

    Trip: The Big E

    Friday, September 16th

     

    Join us on Opening Day at The Big E for a day full of fun! 

    This is the 106th year of The Big E.  The Big E is the largest fair in New England with lots of food, fun and great entertainment such as – the Avenue of States, musical entertainment, the Marti Gras Parade, agricultural and livestock exhibits, Clydesdales, plus an array of exhibits, rides, shopping, crafts, entertainment and TONS of foods.  Don’t forget to try The Big E Cream Puff or The Big Éclair!

    Opening Day is also Military Appreciation Day!  Active Military and Veterans get free admission to the fair with a Veteran or Military ID.  Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from across New England will be stationed along the Avenue of States to answer questions and provide information on both national and state Veteran resources.  A great day to visit!

    COST: $53 per person – Includes charter bus transportation and The Big E admission fee. $43 Active Military and Veterans – Includes transportation.  Free admission with Military ID.

    Trip: Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Beyond King Tut Exhibition

    Wednesday, August 31st

    Boston, MA

    Our first stop will be Faneuil Hall Marketplace where you will have time on your own to shop and have lunch.  One of Boston’s most well known historic sites, Faneuil Hall Marketplace was constructed in 1742 and has served as a marketplace and meeting hall since it first opened its doors.

    Today, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is actually four great historic places in one location – Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, North Market and South Market.  Offering plenty of history, great stores, artisan pushcarts, restaurants, food stands, street performers and entertainment!

    Next, a short bus ride brings us to the Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience exhibition located at the SoWa Power Station.  Through nine distinct galleries, Beyond King Tut unlocks the 3,300 year old story of King Tut in a new and exciting cinematic way!

    Produced in partnership with the National Geographic Society, Beyond King Tut takes visitors on an immersive cinematic journey to Egypt to witness ancient wonders of the world, like the Temple at Karnak and the Great Sphinx, all in stunning high-resolution detail.

    Audiences then gaze upon a brilliant Egyptian sunrise over the Pyramids of Giza, before traveling back in time 3,300 years to the 18th dynasty and the age of the Golden Pharaohs when King Tut ruled.  There, meet Ancient Egyptian gods like Ra and Anubis, while descending into King Tut’s burial chamber and joining him on his quest for immortality.  An event that makes ancient history come to life!

    August Mini-Trip: Point Judith and Galilee

    Tuesday, August 23rd

     

    Enjoy a beautiful Summer day in Galilee and Point Judith!  Your drop off location will be near George’s of Galilee Restaurant.  You will have time on your own to enjoy lunch, sightseeing and shopping!

    You will be within walking distance to Salty Brine State Beach (Galilee Beach) and Roger W. Wheeler State Beach.  Multiple restaurants are in the area to choose from or pack your lunch and eat by the water as you watch the fishing boats come and go.  Be sure to bring your water, sunblock and hat!

    Cost: $3 for transportation.  Lunch is on your own.
