Application Deadline is May 15th for the Elderly and Disabled Homeowner program.

As a reminder, the application deadline for filing the Elderly and Disabled Homeowner application is May 15th. For individuals currently participating in this program, you would have previously been contacted by the Preston Assessor’s Office indicating a need to reapply for this important benefit. The Town of Preston has placed a “drop Box” outside of its main entrance to assist residents in supplying important information to individual departments. If using the drop-box, please include your name and telephone number in a sealed envelope containing your personal information. Please mark the envelope: Attention: Fran Minor. I will notify you that I am in receipt of your documents.

Lunch Curbside Pickup

While we are here for you for curbside sandwich pickup, we would like to suggest that you order takeout from your favorite local restaurants.
Giving them your support during these difficult times is important for all of us to come together and try to minimize the losses that they will incur.

Homeowner’s Tax Relief

Homeowners must be over 65 or totally disabled and live in a home to qualify.  This program is income qualifying and proof of income is required by the State every two years to have benefits continue.  Applications are available February 1st through May 15th annually at the Assessor’s office.  Please contact the Assessor’s office for current qualifying income limits and documentation needed to file.  The application is available online or in the tax assessor’s office.  Contact our Tax Assessor at 860-376-5115.

New Information about ECTC Program:

Good news for individuals who currently participate in the ECTC medical transportation grant. There will be an additional 6 round trips granted to this year’s program. So, if you have already maxed out your rides, you will receive the benefit of scheduling a few more trips. Contact ECTC as you normally would to schedule your medical transportation. Phone 860-848-5910.

Things you can do to support yourself:

 Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories and social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
 Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.
 Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
 Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
 Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row.
