Sign up for a trip to Wright’s Chicken Farm!

Preston seniors are invited to participate in our scheduled trip to
Rhode Island! Mark your calendars for Friday, August 16th for a trip to
Wright’s Chicken Farm in Rhode Island. The family style menu consists of
Baked Chicken, fresh baked rolls, salad topped with Wright’s Farmhouse
dressing, pasta with Wright’s Farm trademark marinara sauce and signature home style French fries. We will be partnering for this event with our good friends at the Lisbon Active Aging Center. (Lisbon seniors are requested to register directly with their senior center at 860-376-2329. The cost of their ticket will include transportation and driver fee).

I anticipate two pick-up points for this event; the first at Lincoln Park Housing and the second at the Preston Senior Center. Registrations and payment must be made no later than Tuesday, August 6th at noon. Cost per person: $18.75 for Preston residents. Limited seating is available, first come, first serve. Please call the Senior Affairs Office at 860-887-5581 ext. 6 to make your reservation.

Trip: Auschwitz, Not Long Ago, Not Far Away (Boston)

WEDNESDAY, JULY 17

In its regional premiere, Museum of Jewish Heritage is offering it’s first traveling exhibition about the Auschwitz concentration camps. Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. is coming to The Castle at Park Plaza in Boston. When guests enter the Auschwitz exhibition, they will confront one of history’s darkest periods… but they will also be a part of an ongoing remembrance and will leave bearing the weight of society’s responsibility to combat hate and evil everywhere. This
exhibit brings together more than 700 original objects of great historic and human value. Most of these objects have never been shown to an audience in New England before. This exhibit will tell the history of the Auschwitz concentration camp and its role in the Holocaust. Includes an audio tour.

We lunch at Milk Street Café upon arrival in Boston then we make our way (.5 mile from the venue) to the exhibit for approx. 2 hours. Our trip includes deluxe coach bus, admission, exbibit audio tour and driver gratuity. (lunch is paid by individual)

Start with a delicious, all you can eat, buffet lunch featuring a large selection of freshly prepared food.  After lunch, enjoy the hilarious performance of Nunsense – A Musical!  Following the show, return to your seat in the dining room for dessert, drinks and a fun-filled Cabaret Show!

Nunsense – A Musical! ~ A hilarious musical comedy about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser.  Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia (Child of God).  Thus, the remaining nuns – befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia; ballet-loving Sister Leo; street-wise Sister Robert Anne; the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and (mistress of the novices) Sister Mary Hubert – decide the best way to raise the money to bury their dearly departed is to stage a talent show ~featuring their own “talents”!

COST: $99 per person includes charter coach bus transportation, fabulous buffet lunch, matinee performance of Nunsense – A Musical!, and Cabaret Show.  Driver tip is not included.

Ice Cream anyone?  Buttonwood Farm makes over 50 flavors of ice cream at their farm.  Along with the ice cream, the waffle cones and whipped cream are also handmade onsite.  During your visit, have a cup, cone, sundae or shake of their delightful treat as you enjoy the views of sunflower fields and farm cows at their scenic country location.

Cost: $2 for transportation (Senior Center bus).  Ice Cream is on your own.

Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. is a groundbreaking traveling exhibition featuring over 700 artifacts and 400 photographs on loan from more than 20 museums, institutions and private collections from around the world.  Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp established by the Nazis during World War II and the place where over 1 million people lost their lives.

Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. is the most comprehensive exhibition ever presented in North America dedicated to the history of Auschwitz and its role in the Holocaust.  The vast collection of personal objects is meant to humanize the lives lost at Auschwitz and to serve as a remembrance and as a reminder of the need to combat hate and evil wherever it exists.

After visiting the exhibit, a short ride brings us to Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Quincy Market.  You will have time on your own for lunch, shopping, exploring the area, and reflecting on your day.
