Won’t you and yours please join us on our next great day trip on Sunday afternoon August 19th? We have privately chartered a coach bus for the day and have great seats! This fun trip is open to the public and to all ages! Awesome memories await you!

This one is for the baseball fans in our lives! MLB games are expensive and this is the next best thing- especially for Red Sox fans!

The Pawtucket Red Sox (known colloquially as the PawSox) are a professional Minor League baseball team based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The team is a member of the International League and is the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. They will play Durham Bulls 1:35 pm game at McCoy Stadium which is home to the Paw Sox Baseball team. The coach bus is all ours.

Cost includes game ticket for Section 4 behind home plate (in the shade), a $2 food voucher and coach bus transportation. $49/resident. We depart from Groton Senior Center at 10:45 am so plenty of parking.

Friday, August 17th- DINING OUT at Grille 92

The community gives to the Groton Senior Center; Dining Out is our way of giving back to the community.  Each month a Restaurant is Featured.  Ride the senior van or meet us there.  Order a full entrée or just appetizers.  An evening outing of dining, socializing and enjoyment!  Please join us Tuesdays for a “socially nutritional” evening.  Registration is required– please be sure to let us know if you want to ride on our GSC bus.

Thursday, September 27th- Trip to Wright’s Farm Restaurant & Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery

September Mini-Trip.   Mini-Trips are open to Rose City Senior Center members only

Registration begins on Tuesday, September 4th, at 5:00pm.  Please see below.

Enjoy a delicious, all you can eat, family-style chicken luncheon at Wright’s Farm Restaurant located in Harrisville, RI.  Your fabulous meal consists of dinner rolls with butter, fresh green salad with Wright’s Farm Classic Italian dressing, pasta with red sauce, Wright’s amazing French fries and of course Wright’s famous, tender and juicy roast chicken.  Included with your meal will be coffee or tea and if you have room – ice cream for dessert!

Following lunch, a short ride brings you to Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery.  Wright’s Bakery specializes in a number of baked goods, including dessert cakes, cupcakes, cream pastries, flaky pastries, pies, bars, sweet rolls and buns, plenty of assorted cookies and much more!

Their bakery is renowned for using only the highest quality ingredients including fresh milk and cream from their own cows.  Fresh dairy products are also available including milk, cream, coffee milk, chocolate milk, cheddar cheese and ice cream!  Be sure to buy some delicious treats to bring home!

Bus leaves Senior Center at 10:15am and returns approximately 4:15pm.  Limited seats available.

Cost: $20   No refunds given after September 19th unless your spot is filled.

Tuesday, August 21st- Trip to Point Judith and Galilee

Enjoy a beautiful Summer day in Galilee and Point Judith!  Your drop off location will be near George’s of Galilee Restaurant.  You will have time on your own to enjoy lunch, sightseeing and shopping!  You will be within walking distance to Salty Brine State Beach (Galilee Beach) and Roger W. Wheeler State Beach.  You will
have multiple restaurants in the area to choose from or you can pack a lunch and eat by the water as you enjoy the fishing boats come and go.  Be sure to bring your camera, sunblock and hat!

Cost: $3 for transportation.  Lunch is on your own.
Bus leave the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. and returns approx. 4:00 p.m.

Thursday, October 18th- Trip at an Autumn Harvest Lunch Train and Marble House Tour at Portsmouth & Newport, RI

Return to the golden age of rail travel on the Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad. Join us for a special lunch excursion along Narragansett Bay during the Autumn harvest season.  Your amazing day starts with a fun Autumn Harvest Lunch Train ride where you will be dining in a “Pullman style” dining car.  You will enjoy a delicious autumn themed lunch (freshly prepared on board) as you take in the amazing scenery on your 2 hour long train ride.  The leisurely train travel takes you through the picturesque county side of Aquidneck Island with views of Narragansett Bay along your journey.   The train ride features all table seating on our private chartered train ride!

After our train excursion a short coach bus ride through Portsmouth into Newport will take us to the Vanderbilt’s  “Summer cottage” Marble House, one of the Newport mansions.  Here you will take a self-guided audio tour which allows you to view this amazing house and grounds at your own pace.  Marble House was built for Mr. & Mrs. William Vanderbilt (Cornelius Vanderbilt’s grandson) starting in 1888 and finished in 1892.  It cost the Vanderbilt’s $11 million to build the house, of which $7 million was spent on marble alone.  Upon completion of the house, Mr. Vanderbilt gave the house to his wife as a 39th birthday present.  In 2006,  Marble House was designated a National Historic Landmark.
