Programs

Programs – The Senior Center plans events on a monthly basis. Below is a listing for what generally occurs. For more details on events not listed below, check the Calendar Section and/or the News Section.

Fitness – Participants can trial any class without obligation. Please notify the Senior Center office if you are trialing a class.

All participants are encouraged to participate at their level of fitness/comfort. Any physical concerns are to be addressed to your personal physician. Questions about modifying the routines are to be directed to your instructor. All instructors are CPR certified and qualified in the class they are teaching.

Classes are Session Based: These classes will have a specific start and end date. Class sessions typically run for 3 months.

Music Classes – Ukulele and Guitar lessons. Explore your creative side and challenge yourself mentally by learning to play an instrument. Beginner level is offered as well as more advanced classes. Loaner instrument is available if needed.

Education/Enrichment Classes – Learn new skills in the areas of the arts, technology, health and more. Through education develop and help maintain your mental abilities as well as enhance your self-esteem and creative needs. Explore and develop your interests.

Cards/GamesA variety of choices for group play and individual play. Promotes mental stimulation and provides for socialization. They stimulate memory, attention skills and have great social interaction which works on many parts of the brain. Our games programs include a variety of levels from basic to more challenging options.

Social Scene – The Senior Center plans, often with meals, events that are offered to provide socialization and entertainment. Any excuse for a party is considered whether it be to celebrate a national holiday or just to have some fun.

Health Services – These services are provided to help older adults age at home and stay as well as possible. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the programs.

Nutrition Services – The Senior Nutrition Program, administered by TVCCA, offers nutritious meals on Tuesday and Thursday at 11:45am. You must register for a lunch at least 24 hours in advance.

    Candle Making Experience at Pinspiration in East Lyme

    Thursday, July 27th at 2:00pm

     

    Pinspiration’ s candle-making experience is so unique! It is led by instructors who will guide you through the whole candle making process – step by step! You’ll be selecting a premium vessel, choose a signature scent from a variety of fragrance oils, and choose from a variety of mix-in enhancements such as stones, botanicals, and crystals.

    The Candle Making Experience is a wonderfully relaxing event!

    Cost per guest is $45 and includes a beverage of your choice.

    Patriotic Flower Vase Craft

    Monday, July 10th at 11:00am

     

    Nancy Souza, Card Maker, Mixed Media Artist and Altenew Certified Educator will help us learn how to create red, white and blue rosettes using patterned themed scrapbook paper displayed in a glass canning jar. July themed paper will be used for the paper rosettes, gold glitter paper for accent stars, ribbon streamers for additional interest and other themed related items. Join me in
    learning how to create the popular rosettes for a summer time themed display.

    Bring scissors, liquid glue, paper scoring bone folder (optional), ruler, hot glue gun (optional) and any other tools you can bring.

    Parkinson’s Disease Speech Program

    Wednesday, July 19th at 2:30pm

     

    Do you have Parkinson’s disease? Do people often tell you to speak up or repeat yourself? Does your voice sound breathy or hoarse? Does it take more effort to be understood?

    If you answered yes, this new program is for you!

     

    Julie Summers MS, CCC-SLP, the owner of On Point Speech Therapy will offering a free maintenance program for people with PD. will be hosting a monthly maintenance program to help people with PD maintain strong healthy voices and communication skills. Here, Julie will provide ongoing vocal practice, support, and encouragement to help you maintain your communication skills throughout the progression of Parkinson’s.

    The group will meet the third Wednesday of every month.

    The group is free, but registration and prerequisite training is required prior to joining the group.

    “Thoughtful Tuesday”

    Monthly Mindfulness Coaching. Would you like to experience more peace and calm, even when everything around you seems chaotic and busy? Would you like to feel rested and enjoy better sleep? Would you like to experience more joy? Join Wellness Coach and Pharmacist Lisa Bragaw from Zen & Now Wellness Center the 2nd Tues of each month.

    Please register with the Senior Center for each month. $10pp each month.

    Tue from 7-9pm : Recreational Pickleball – No drop in play
    Intermediate players. Must register your interest to play for the session and then register weekly for the next upcoming date of play. Recreational play. $3.00 per play.

    Tue and Thu from 9-10am : Yoga
    New session starts on July 6th and ends on Sept 21st (no class 9/7). In person instruction on Tue and Thu at 9am. Registration now open. 22 classes. Class fee $55R and $60NR. **Waitlist Only**

    Tue Only from 3:00-3:450pm : FitDance Gold

    Fri from 12:15 – 2:30pm : Pickleball – Open Play – No drop in play

    Open Play. All levels of play. Must have knowledge of the game. No Lessons will be given. Must register weekly. $3.00 per play. **No Open Play in July**

    Sat from 9:45 – 2:45pm : Pickleball – No Drop in Play
    9:45 – 12:15pm – Drills & Play for Intermediate – advanced players only – upon approval. Required skills – dink, block, drive, drop, court positions. $3 per play.
    12:30 -2:45pm – Open Play. All levels of play. Must have knowledge of the game, $3per play.
