    Friday, September 17th at 8:30-7:45pm- Day Trip to The Big E Fair in Springfield, MA

    September 17th is opening day of The Big E so the fair will be freshly presented and clean!

    This is the 105th year of The Big E.  The Big E is the largest fair in New England with lots of food, fun and great entertainment such as – the Avenue of States, musical entertainment, the Marti Gras Parade, agricultural and livestock exhibits, Clydesdales, plus an array of exhibits, rides, shopping, crafts, entertainment and TONS of foods.  Don’t forget to try The Big E Cream Puff or The Big Éclair!

    Opening Day is also Military Appreciation Day!  Active Military and Veterans get free admission to the fair with a Veteran or Military ID.  Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from across New England will be stationed along the Avenue of States to answer questions and provide information on both national and state Veteran resources.  A great day to visit!

    COST: $48 per person – Includes coach bus transportation and The Big E admission fee.

    $38 Active Military and Veterans – Includes transportation.  Free admission with Military ID.

    Mini-Trip to Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock in New London on September 21st

    Mini-trips are open to Rose City Senior Center Members only.   Mini-trips may be subject to cancellation due to severe weather or unforeseen circumstances.

    Tuesday, September 21th  – Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock

    Sign up at Reception (by phone or in person) starting on September 7th

    Join us for lunch at Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock in New London.  This casual, outdoor restaurant is a local favorite for seafood lovers!  They offer seafood dinners, lobster rolls, chowder, salads, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and more!  They also offer Gifford’s of Maine ice cream for dessert.  Captain Scott’s is located right on the water with beautiful views of Shaw’s Cove Marina.

    (Please note: Dining is outdoors with a covered seating area available).

    Cost: $2 for transportation (Senior Center bus).  Lunch is on your own.

    Bus leaves the Senior Center at 11:00 a.m. and returns approx. 1:45 p.m.

    Per the TSA & State of CT, masks are mandatory to be worn on the bus.

     

     

    Tuesday, August 24th- August Mini Trip to Point Judith and Galilee

    August Mini-Trip: Mini-trips are open to Rose City Senior Center Members only

    Enjoy a beautiful Summer day in Galilee and Point Judith!  Your drop off location will be near George’s of Galilee Restaurant.  You will have time on your own to enjoy lunch, sightseeing and shopping!  You will be within walking distance to Salty Brine State Beach (Galilee Beach) and Roger W. Wheeler State Beach.  Multiple restaurants in the area to choose from or you can pack a lunch and eat by the water as you enjoy the fishing boats come and go.  Be sure to bring your camera, sunblock and hat!

    Cost: $3 for transportation (Senior Center bus).  Lunch is on your own.

    Bus leaves the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. and returns approx. 4:00 p.m.

    Wednesday, December 18th- Trip to A Christmas Cactus at Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Theater, Newport, RI

    Start with a delicious buffet luncheon with all foods prepared on the premises.
    Following lunch enjoy the hilarious Matinee performance of A Christmas Cactus!
    Christmas Eve is tough for private investigator Cactus O’Riley, a white hot redhead with the holiday blues. She doesn’t need the added aggravation of two fugitives who burst into her office looking for justice and a dead detective named Jake Marley.  Christmas turns into a dickens of a holiday for Cactus as she solves mysteries, delivers small miracles and takes a second chance on love and sleuthing.  Comedy, mystery, and romance converge in this charming contemporary Christmas tale where goodwill and justice triumph!
    Following the Matinee, return to your seat in the dining room for a holiday themed Cabaret Show!

    COST: $75 per person includes roundtrip motorcoach, fabulous buffet lunch, matinee performance of “A Christmas Cactus”, and cabaret show.  Driver tip is not included.

    Wednesday, December 4th- Trip to Les Miserables at Place Theater in Waterbury CT

    Our first stop will be at the Brass Mill Center were you will have time on your own to shop and have an early lunch.  Your choices for dining include full service restaurants: Chili’s, IHOP, TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings, Shogun Japan or a food court with quick service restaurants including Burger King, Chicken Now, China Max and Sicilian Delight.  After lunch, we head over to the Palace Theater for our 1pm matinee performance of the award winning musical Les Misérables!

    Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.  Based on Victor Hugo’s epic novel.

    Relentless policeman Javert pursues escaped convict Jean Valjean over decades through the tumult of revolutionary France.  Jean Valjean becomes a wealthy factory owner and mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer.  Guilt-ridden, he agrees to raise Cosette, the daughter of Fantine, who was wrongly fired from her job at Valjean’s factory and becomes a prostitute to support her daughter.  Years later, Jean Valjean joins the fight for freedom in order to protect Cosette’s love, Marius. 

    Featuring the thrilling score and beloved songs “I Dreamed A Dream”, “On My Own”, “Stars”, “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More” and many more, this epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history.
