Congregate Café Program
The Congregate Café Program is conducted at the Preston Senior Center, 42 Long Society Road on Monday’s at 11:30 a.m. (except for holidays and/or inclement weather). The program is designed for elders who are 60 years of age and older. Registrations for the Monday meal must be called in before the previous Thursday. There is a suggested donation of $3.00 per person. We ask that participants register for the Monday program in advance. Please call 860-887-5581 ext. 6 leaving your name, telephone number and date which you plan on attending the program.
All persons who are sixty years of age and older are welcome to attend, it doesn’t matter if you live in Preston, Lisbon, Ledyard, all are invited. Persons who are under the age of sixty are charged a larger fee for participating in the program.
Wednesday, October 16th- Annual Flu – Pneumonia – Shingles Clinic
As a reminder, Wednesday, October 16th is the date of our annual clinic. Persons who have registered for the clinic will have received written correspondence regarding the event or in some cases, personal contact or a telephone call. We will have a volunteer assisting with the parking arrangements. Handicapped parking is available in the rear of the building. If you need to use a wheelchair, please call the Senior Affairs Office in advance of clinic day to ensure that one will be available for you. We ask that if possible, that you remain with us for 10 to 15 minutes to ensure that you do not encounter any adverse reaction to the injections. This will give you a great opportunity to visit with friends and neighbors and partake in a light refreshment.
AARP Tax Assistance Program
Appointments are currently being accepted for the Free AARP Income Tax assistance program at the Preston Senior Center. The income tax preparation assistance is designed for low and middle-income taxpayers of all ages, with special attention to those individuals who are 60 years of age or older.
If married, we ask that both husband and wife are present during an income tax counseling session. Taxpayers must bring all documents which they have received that apply to their 2017 income tax filing.
Tax-Aide sessions will be conducted at the Preston Senior Center, 42 Long Society Road, Preston on the following dates: Wednesday, February 7 and 21st, March 7th and 21st and concluding on Wednesday, April 4th. All appointments are scheduled between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

TVCCA Energy Assistance
Application are currently being accepted for the TVCCA Energy Assistance Program. Required information necessary for completing your application include: Social Security numbers for all household members; birth dates for all household members; current utility bill, rent receipt or proof of mortgage payment, etc. are required. In addition, current proof and complete statements of ALL liquid assets for every household member are necessary. Transportation Services
The Town of Preston provides FREE transportation services to Preston residents who are 60 years of age and older. Medical transportation is permitted within a 25 mile radius of the town. A handicapped accessible vehicle is also available for elderly persons requiring use of adaptive devices such as wheelchairs and/or scooters .
Routine shopping trips are scheduled on Wednesday’s to the Big Y and Walmart shopping areas and on Friday’s to Marcus Plaza. With prior authorization, side trips to banks, pharmacies, libraries, etc. may be included in the normal schedule.

Medical Transportation for Senior/Disabled Individuals:
The Town of Preston participates in a program which is provided through the Eastern Connecticut Transportation Consortium, Inc. ECTC is a private nonprofit agency that brokers and provides transit services for persons of low income, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Medical Transportation and Caregiver Mileage programs are for seniors 60+ and persons with disabilities who are unable to drive and need transportation to a medical appointment that is occurring outside the hours or area that the town funded transportation services operates.
To participate in the Medical Transportation Program, individuals must complete a Eligibility Form and pay an annual enrollment fee of $24.00. (July thru June). Registered participants who cannot have their needs met by existing services will be provided a limited number of one-way trips per grant year. No fare is charged to participate, but a $24.00 enrollment fee is required. ECTC will arrange the medical transportation for eligible participants. Each trip request will be reviewed to determine if it can be met by existing transportation services. If so, ECTC will refer the client to the appropriate services.
Transportation may be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week provided sufficient notice is given by the client. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance. For additional information or to request an Eligibility Form, please call the Senior Affairs Office at 860-887-51 extension 6.
CAREGIVER MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT:
This program is for persons unable to drive. The driver and rider must complete the “Request for Mileage Reimbursement” form. If you are using the Caregiver Reimbursement Program only, there is NO enrollment fee assessed. The program is designed for seniors 60+ and persons with disabilities.
Mileage will be calculated by ECTC based on the shortest distance. Caregivers are not reimbursed for mileage from their home to the client’s. Completed forms must include the appointment date, start address, destination address, and must be signed and dated by client and driver after last trip entered.
