Programs

Programs – The Senior Center plans events on a monthly basis. Below is a listing for what generally occurs. For more details on events not listed below, check the Calendar Section and/or the News Section.

Fitness – Participants can trial any class without obligation. Please notify the Senior Center office if you are trialing a class.

All participants are encouraged to participate at their level of fitness/comfort. Any physical concerns are to be addressed to your personal physician. Questions about modifying the routines are to be directed to your instructor. All instructors are CPR certified and qualified in the class they are teaching.

Classes are Session Based: These classes will have a specific start and end date. Class sessions typically run for 3 months.

Music Classes – Ukulele and Guitar lessons. Explore your creative side and challenge yourself mentally by learning to play an instrument. Beginner level is offered as well as more advanced classes. Loaner instrument is available if needed.

Education/Enrichment Classes – Learn new skills in the areas of the arts, technology, health and more. Through education develop and help maintain your mental abilities as well as enhance your self-esteem and creative needs. Explore and develop your interests.

Cards/GamesA variety of choices for group play and individual play. Promotes mental stimulation and provides for socialization. They stimulate memory, attention skills and have great social interaction which works on many parts of the brain. Our games programs include a variety of levels from basic to more challenging options.

Social Scene – The Senior Center plans, often with meals, events that are offered to provide socialization and entertainment. Any excuse for a party is considered whether it be to celebrate a national holiday or just to have some fun.

Health Services – These services are provided to help older adults age at home and stay as well as possible. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the programs.

Nutrition Services – The Senior Nutrition Program, administered by TVCCA, offers nutritious meals on Tuesday and Thursday at 11:45am. You must register for a lunch at least 24 hours in advance.

    Painting with Friends

    Tue thru Sep 21st

    9:30-12pm

    New session starts on Jul 6th and ends on Sep 21st. In person at the Senior Center every Tue of the month at 9:30am.Registration begins Jul 1st.

     

    Craft Time

    2 classes  –  Jul 13th & Ju

    Tue Jul 13th and Tue July 27th

    1:00-2:00pm

    2 classes  –  Jul 13th & Jul 27th.  In person instruction with Candy.  The cost for each craft is $5.00 per person. Registration begins Jul 1st.

     

    Stitch Happens

    Wed thru Sep 22nd

    9:30-11:30am

    New session starts on Jul 7th and ends on Sep 22nd and will be held on Wed at 9:30am in person. You must  register your interest in this session. Registration begins Jul 1st.

     

    Drawing Class

    Thu thru Sep 23rd

    10:00-11:30am

    New session starts on Jul 8th and ends on Sep 23rd and will be held on Thu at 10am in person. You must         register for this session. Registration begins Jul 1st.

     

    Quilting

    Thru Sep 21st

    New session  starts on Jul 12th and ends on Sep 21st and will be held on the 1st Mon of the month at 1pm (due to the holiday, this month is the 2nd Mon) – the 3rd Fri of the month at 5pm and the last Tue of the month at 5pm. Registration begins Jul 1st. This is an indoor program. Fee is $2per participation. No fee for the Mon time period.

     

    Wed, July 14th at 12:00pm- PICNIC at BROOKSIDE FARM

    Menu:  BBQ Ribs, Potato Salad, Green Salad

    Dessert on your own at the Waffle Wagon located in the Community Center parking lot

    Fee is $6pp payable upon registration.

    Ageless Fitness (once known as Senior Fitness)

    New session starts Jul 19th and ends on Sep 22nd (no class Sept 6th).  In person instruction on Mon and Wed at 10am. You must register for this session. Registration begins Jul 1st. Class fee $38R and $42NR.

     

    Strength Training

    11:30-12:30pm

    New session starts on Jul 7th and ends on Sep 22nd (no class Sept 6th).  In person instruction on Mon and Wed at 11:30am. You must register for this session. Registration begins Jul 1st.  Class fee $60R and $66NR.

     

    Recreational Pickleball

    Tue thru Sep21st

    7-9pm

    New session starts on Jul 6th and ends on Sept 21st. In person play. Must register your interest to play for the session and then register weekly for the next upcoming date of play. Registration begins Jul 1st. $3per play.

     

    Yoga

    Tue and Thu thru Sep 23rd

    9-10am

    New session starts on Jul 6th and ends on Sep 23rd. In person instruction on Tue and Thu at 9am. You must  register for this session. Registration begins Jul 1st. Class fee $52R and $57NR.

     

    FitDance Gold

    Tue only thru Aug 17th

    3-4ppm

    Tue and Thu Sep 6th thru Sep 23rd

    New Session starts Jul 6th and ends on Sep 23rd. In person instruction on Tues thru Aug 17th and Tue & Thu starting Sep 7th at 3pm. You must register for this session. Registration begins Jul 1st. Class fee $36R and $39NR.

     

    Tai Chi

    Wed and Fri thru Sep 24th

    Ping Pong

    Chair Yoga

    New session starts on July 9th and ends Sept 24th.  In person instruction on Fri at 10am. You must register for this session. Registration begins Jul 1st.  Class fee $24R and $26NR.

     

    Novice/Adv Beg Pickleball/Drills & Coached Play

    Fri thru Sep 24th

    10-12pm

    New session starts Jul 9th and ends on Sep 24th. In person play. Must register your interest to play for the session and then register weekly for the next upcoming date of play. A minimum of 4 is required to run.        Registration  begins Jul 1st. $3per play. If a Beginner, $10per play for lesson.

     

    Pickleball   10am/Drills & Play   12pm/Open Play

    Sat  thru Sep 25th

    10-2pm

    New session starts Jul 3rd and ends on Sep 25th. In person play. Must register your interest to play for the session and then register weekly for the next upcoming date of play. Registration begins Jul 1st. $3per play.

    Wednesday, July 14th, 6:30-8:00pm- One Day University Lecture Series, Presented by AARP: The Science of Sleep & Stress

    Get tips for a better sleep to help bolster your brain and memory! Join AARP and attendees from across the U.S. for a FREE One Day University Virtual Lecture and live Q&A on July 14  at 6:30 pm ET with Jessica Payne from the University of Notre Dame. AARP Membership not required. 

    Sleep is critical for our brains and bodies, from decreasing risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease to bolstering our memory and emotional well-being. Professor Jessica Payne is an expert in sleep and cognition and will explain the moving target of sleep across the ages and its impact on mental and physical health and well-being. She will help people understand how to best combat these changes and work with them to benefit our lives. She will give tips on how to sleep better, including how to      engineer the perfect nap! Along with learning how to use sleep to heighten creativity, productivity, memory and emotional wellbeing, older adults concerned with cognitive decline can learn about the role of sleep in this process and how to best regain control of sleep in order to bolster their brains and memory processes.

    Professor Payne will participate in a LIVE Q&A immediately following the pre-recorded lecture. A recording will be available to view after the live event concludes but you MUST register to receive the link.
