    NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION COMING ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7TH AT 1PM WITH DISCUSSION ON “BUDGET: CAN I AFFORD IT?”

    “Budget: Can I afford it?” in this short presentation with time for questions, we will go over budgeting
    effectively and planning for the future along the way. Our main goal is to help attendees on their
    financial journey, whatever it may look like. We will discuss topics such as wants versus needs,
    evaluating and controlling spending habits, and give some tools and tips on paying bills on time.
    We will also spend time focusing on setting goals and priorities for a healthy financial journey!
    Registration begins Dec 1st. Please register by Tue, Dec 6th.

    Energy Assistance for 22/23 Fall and Winter Season

    Applications for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program are being taken at the New London office of TVCCA. That
    office can be contacted at 860-425-6681 to make an appointment. The Senior Center will assist the Senior and Disabled
    population of East Lyme with their applications. Call the Senior Center at 860-739-5859 for an appointment.
    For residents who reside in Twin Haven and the AHEPA housing complexes, please look for
    signup sheets in your buildings.
    To be eligible:
    In a one-person household, income can be NO greater than $39,027. In a two-person household, income can be NO
    greater than $51,035.
    The following information is required:
    1. Proof of income sources: copy of most recent monthly (quarterly, annual) check or copy of an award letter or copy of
    most recent bank statement showing the direct deposit. If you are employed you must provide a copy of your four most
    recent consecutive pay stubs. Dividends, annuities or interest income (has to be more than $10/month). Copy of a
    statement for the most recently completed period.
    2. All households must provide a copy of their most recent ENTIRE electric bill from Eversource.
    3. If a household heats with oil, bring the name of your vendor.
    4.If a household heats with natural gas or propane, bring your most recent ENTIRE statement.
    Please remember all members of the household who receive income must report their income.

    MEDICARE SAVINGS PROGRAM

    Are you on Medicare and paying for your Part B premium?
    If your monthly incomes is less than $2,786 (gross) as a single or $3,754 (gross) as a couple per month, you could be eligible for the Medicare Savings Program (MSP).

    Depending upon your income level, you could be eligible for 3 benefits.
    1. The MSP will pay for the Part B premium for Medicare coverage.
    2. You would be eligible for the Low Income Subsidy which pays the full monthly premium of a Medicare Part D (prescription coverage) benchmark plan, or a portion of a non-benchmark plan, yearly deductibles and co-insurance, or co-pays. It also allows you to change your Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plans outside of the open enrollment period.
    3. You may be eligible for the MSP to act as your supplemental health insurance.
